I have a different opinion cause I've seen quite a number of preseason games. Officiating has historically been a hit topic in the WNBA and literally every team acknowledges it's terrible. So I think the referees are making efforts to clean that up and we seen significant changes with the games aired so far.

A fundamental change has been how fouls are called. Any defensive set that impedes movement is now a foul, grabbing and clawing on the opposing player is also getting called now. And thankfully they've been consistent throughout all the games. Teams will now have to adjust their defensive plans as things they used to get away with previously are now getting called.

So officiating wasn't unfair yesterday, referring has just become a little more strict with contact.
They were not calling it both ways. We could barely touch them but they were allowed to do anything they wanted.

Well the stats says different. Indiana attempted 21 free throws, Nigeria attempted 34 free throws. Total fouls called were 27 Nigeria and 28 Indiana.

I can show you better than I can tell you. Maybe I'll do those highlights later.

She ends with 8 points 3 rebounds a steal and a block. Didn't shoot that well (2/5 from the field, 1-4 3pt) but I love the fact that she wasn't afraid to let it fly. Also her defense is really underrated on the low.

Azzi Fudd is now also complaining about the officiating

Again like I said, officiating has evolved and the way fouls will be called this season has changed. Many things that folks got away with in prior years will no longer be allowed moving forward. Defenders will now have to adjust and play real defense.

I'll be curious to see to show it on video and highlight where the disparity is. Looking forward to it.

This is a good hire. Will he still be with the Tempo?

I don't think Dallas is the right team for Amy right now. That team is currently stacked with competing players on her role earning $1M. I don't see how she'll get significant minutes even if she makes the team.

I was hoping to see her in Connecticut or Seattle.

The best teams for our players to sign on right now are Phoenix, Connecticut, Seattle, Portland and Minnesota. Those are the teams with a poor roster right now and you're more likely to get a contract plus playing time there.
Just like I feared, Amy Okonkwo has been waved by Dallas Wings. The handwriting was on the wall from the very beginning. Her agent should have leveraged on her showing last season to get her on a team not as stacked as Dallas. This is hoping she gets picked up by another team cause she very well deserves a WNBA spot.

Jordan Obi got waived too. Hopefully they make her a development player.

It seems like Ugonne Onyiah is still on the Liberty roster.

David Fizdale, former NBA head coach, has been named the new head coach for D’Tigers

David Fizdale cool. It is a good development.

I have mixed feelings about this appointment...
I doubt the NBBF have the financial capacity to pay an NBA grade coach unless they have secured some serious financial support from sponsors or the government, which brings to question how often will he be available to coach the team...even though, he is currently not coaching any NBA team..

On the other hand, his appointment could be a good leverage to get some NBA players back to the team like Mike Brown did in 2019 if we manage to qualify for the world cup

BREAKING!

Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu remains interested in representing D’Tigers of Nigeria under new head coach David Fizdale.

Okongwu previously missed out on a potential call-up due to short notice, but there is optimism he could be part of the national team setup moving forward, with discussions still ongoing ahead of the July window.

According to Kenny Bamidele.

Sources say Desmond Bane is keen on donning the green-white-green of Nigeria soon!

I’m willing to bet that he will be the bane of most D’Tigers opponents in the future

A future D-Tiger?

According to Coach Hova @realbucketscout:

Rueben Chinyelu 🇳🇬 should be the word on every Nigerian.

Rueben Chinyelu is projected as an early 2nd-round pick as he posted one of the most outrageous wingspan differentials in NBA Draft combine history.

6’9.25” barefoot
7.7.5” wingspan

Chinyelu’s arms are 10.25” longer than his height.

Amy Okonkwo has signed a developmental contract with the Atlanta Dream.

Kinda hoped a team will pick her up for the dev slot, just didn't expect ATL to be the one. Hopefully this sets the pace for her to get a better contract as the season progresses.

Amy and Angel Reese 😁 This is a very good signing for the Dream. They only have 2 good players on their bench. I won't be surprised if she gets bumped up to a full contract before the season ends.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by TheSuperNerd(m): 9:39am On May 14
Why do these WNBA sides look down on African talents? Is Amy Okonkwo not MVP of FIBA Africa Women?? A whole MVP of African women's basketball na im dey give Development contract... it is well. Yakubu Manage mode.
