spiceadole:I believed when you left, you didn't ask us the amount you had in your possession and besides different strokes for different folks. What worked for you back then might not work for him right now. Have a bro who recently did same to same UK but now he's crying and regretting after selling off properties he worked so hard to acquire back then. Reading motivational lines on Nairaland from even those that haven't even traveled outside Nigeria in their dreams fooled him into taking that regrettable decision that he's yet to recover from. Europe is not finding it funny this period, it might have worked during yours but let him make findings. Europe is tough right now. |

richgang:The way this question is framed says it all The op has no plan for what to do once he enters the UK. Basically the usual 'hustle' plan. The west is not made for foreigners hustling. If you are not entering as a professional with a defined career path, West in general and UK in particular is not for you. It is a reasonably structured society and there is no space for unsupported emigrant hustlers The foolish question also applies to Nigeria. He has no plan outside of invest 30 million. He has not worked in an industry or business and he wants to 'invest' on vibes |

As a black man from Africa, if you would readily travel out to the West or Middle East, it has to be an equal combination of desperation and servitude |

Invest your money in two businesses in Nigeria Farming and any other where you have little experience. In 5 years you will travel to UK on holiday. |

Present-day Nigeria is honestly not a very friendly environment for investment. It’s not about being unpatriotic it’s about facing reality. Running a business here will drain you in ways people don’t always talk about. You’ll deal with unstable power supply, high cost of fuel, inconsistent government policies, and a tough economic climate. For example, my family recently set up a business for my mum ahead of her retirement. We invested heavily, but within a few months, most of the profit was going into fueling generators. On top of that, many customers simply couldn’t afford the services anymore because their purchasing power had dropped significantly. So it’s not just about starting a business it’s about whether your target market can still pay you consistently. That’s where many people begin to eat into their capital just to survive. As for the UK, yes, things are not as easy as before cost of living is high and opportunities are tighter now. But when you compare structure, stability, and earning consistency, Nigeria still doesn’t come close. At the end of the day, weigh your options carefully. But from an economic standpoint, investing in Nigeria right now even on a small scale comes with significant risk. |

Though the UK is fast becoming a third world Islamic country, it's still better than Nigeria. I rather move than invest in the present day Nigeria... Is any investment paying in Nigeria these days? Moreover, that 30m will become 3m in less than 4 months under the present APC. |

lezz:It is not for everyone, I am now based in England where I know my skillsets would have better returns and it has, working for a London borough (local government). Pay is good, condition of service is cool and I am motivated to give my best. Can't say same, if I am local government worker in Nigeria and above all, the quality of life, can't be compared. |

First, this isn’t a fair comparison. Asking someone to choose between traveling to the UK with ₦30 million to spend and staying in Nigeria with the same ₦30 million is skewed, many people, even the wealthy, would naturally pick the UK option. However, if that ₦30 million also has to cover travel costs (flights, visa, relocation expenses), then staying in Nigeria to invest becomes the more practical choice. In Nigeria, ₦30 million can be invested in treasury bills, government bonds, or mutual funds with returns of about 15%–19%, yielding roughly ₦4.5 million to ₦5.7 million annually. By contrast, once you convert the money to pounds and settle in the UK, a significant portion will quickly go into accommodation, utilities, and general living expenses within the first year, leaving little or nothing to invest. That said, the UK offers advantages that go beyond money. There is greater peace of mind, access to quality education for children, and a higher level of safety overall. While no place is completely free of crime, the risks such as kidnapping are significantly lower compared to Nigeria. |

ayoncox:Suggesting putting ₦20m into Treasury Bills might sound smart to the ear, but that advice really depends on the person’s goal. Treasury Bills are safe, no doubt. But they are low-risk, low-return instruments. With ₦30m, locking away ₦20m there might preserve capital, but it won’t significantly grow wealth especially in an economy where inflation is constantly eating into value. So the real question is what is he trying to achieve? If the goal is capital preservation, then yes, Treasury Bills make sense. But if the goal is growth, relocation, or improving life quality, then tying down two-thirds of your capital in a low-yield instrument may not be the best move. At current realities, the returns from Treasury Bills may not even outpace inflation consistently, meaning you’re “safe” but still losing purchasing power in real terms. With ₦30m, this is a life-changing decision. It shouldn’t just be about playing safe it should be about positioning for better income, stability, and long-term opportunity. I feel treasury bill should be ruled out. |

Even with N70m, I will rather go to the UK to do cleaning job, i will go there to have a sane mind, good security system, sanity and tranquility, quality life style etc. With N150m in Nigeria, you will be constantly afraid of kidnapers, stray bullet, police brutality, injustice system, you will be afraid of your neighbor, afraid of village people, etc. With that N30m investment in Nigeria, inflation is there to eat up the money and you might not even certain on how the next government policy will crumble you or reduce that n30m into a mere n3m, thereby bringing you back to square starting point. Wise people today save to Japa and not to invest into uncertain or unpredictable system. |

Better if you are under 35, able to be humble and disciplined with time. That is about 16k pounds. Don’t go with VV visa, only student visa(which allows you 21 hours work a week) or work visa better to secure the job from 9ja before you go and don’t use agent most are scam. Accommodation-get a room using personal contact or small supermarket shop front advert. Online also works no agent fees or viewing fees allowed to be charged. You can be scammed anywhere so be careful. If you have someone who can accommodate you for some weeks, months this is generally good for advice also link via a church, mosque is useful. Food is cheap relative to many other countries. Transport- expensive so plan and decide if day, week Ly or monthly pass which is best for you richgang: |

richgang:Brotherly, I know Nigeria is currently upside-down in terms of Economy, Security, Health, etc but you can still make it "big" with 30M. Na king you be for here with 30M but when you japa to U.K. na slave you go be over there......kiss the truth! You know what? Plan and structure your life very well. Investing in Nigeria requires wisdom . Don't invest 30M at once, start with 5M or thereabouts (depending on the type of investment). Just my honest opinion. |

Rapmoney:Well, Nigerians are born hardworking and very creative, but wickedness runs in the blood of our founding fathers. Many are suffering from the greediness and wickedness of what they inherited from there forefathers.. There is nothing wrong with Nigeria as a country. We are supposed to stand as the most prosperous Nation on planet earth. But the key foundational factors that debarred Nigerians are inherited greediness, witchcraft wickedness, pride, jealousy and many more.. actually it's called the fruit of the devil. |

If I were you. I would invest that money in the NGX market. The nigerian stock exchange market. For example, if you had invested that money in a stock called Aradel, which was around #750 as of then. Your 30million would be around 88million of April ending because that stock rose to #2,065 . Yet that doesn’t mean you might not be successful over there. Weight your options. |

With the current rate of inflation this is a no brainier. I cannot see my assets lose 15, 20 percent every year and not want to place it where it loses 3,4,5 percent except I intend to invest in either an illegitimate business or an exploitative one (which is not sustainable either). |

Nnahokwudiri:This is not sustainable. Like I said except if your life revolves around making quick money and living on the edge. Other folks think far and want peace and stability. |

If you’ve never seen up to 10 million in your account, 30 million will definitely look like a smart reason to stay back. But sooner or later, you will understand it’s actually small compared to what you gain from moving to a better environment. Again, if you are that good with business here in Nigeria, why hasn’t your 500k become millions? Why wait for 30 million? Continue to deceive yourself. |
