Take this advice. We have seen Nigeria get worse since 2015. Leave the shit-hole. Don't listen to those motivational speakers and those supporting Tinubu in Nigeria. This country isn't getting any better

Bros it's better to be in Nigeria oh, you will just burn your money moving to UK, Use 20 million naira to buy Treasury bill and compound it, with 10 million naira start a business that is scalable, if you make the right moves you can do 50 m upwards in a year. If you need detailed explanation chat me up on 08089456258

Hello everyone, if you have the opportunity to choose between using 30 Million naira to relocate to UK or to stay back in Nigeria and invest the 30 Million Naira . Which would be your preferred option?
30M which is less than £25,000 pounds wouldn't get you far in UK if you can't secure annual income over £45000 within 3 months. And this can only guarantee the bare minimum standards of living.

Rent in most major UK cities where top jobs and opportunities are would be at least £1000-2000.

Then factor in your council taxes, car insurance, food and other running costs, you'll be living just above the poverty line. If you have young kids and need to secure crèche or baby sitting services you can add 500-1000 pounds monthly to that.

Abeg japa is dead on arrival in 2026, if you must leave Nigeria in 2026 please do so as a professional with a job secured before leaving Nigeria, you'll likely have your accomodation covered by your employer or subsidised

You work hard and make 30m legitimately in Nigeria but wants to go and do cleaner or menial job in abroad .
There is no way you will make 30m legitimately in Nigeria and wants to abandoned that hursle and think of relocating to start doing menial jobs abroad .

Do you really think piped water in the UK is safe for drinking? People generally depend on bottle water. Piped water even in uk is not trusted to be good.
Is piped water in the UK worse than the water in Nigeria that are from boreholes in the same compound as septic tanks and soak away pits?

Do you know what Stockholm Syndrome sufferers rationalisation means?

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

Suggesting putting ₦20m into Treasury Bills might sound smart to the ear, but that advice really depends on the person’s goal.
Treasury Bills are safe, no doubt. But they are low-risk, low-return instruments. With ₦30m, locking away ₦20m there might preserve capital, but it won’t significantly grow wealth especially in an economy where inflation is constantly eating into value.
So the real question is what is he trying to achieve?

If the goal is capital preservation, then yes, Treasury Bills make sense.
But if the goal is growth, relocation, or improving life quality, then tying down two-thirds of your capital in a low-yield instrument may not be the best move.
At current realities, the returns from Treasury Bills may not even outpace inflation consistently, meaning you’re “safe” but still losing purchasing power in real terms.
With ₦30m, this is a life-changing decision. It shouldn’t just be about playing safe it should be about positioning for better income, stability, and long-term opportunity.

I feel treasury bill should be ruled out.
Of course, you are right, if I were the one I will go all in with like 25 m,there are other options outside of Treasury bill that I am well acquainted with, did one last last year for a 365 days round. The goal is actually compounding and not just one time gain, the approach is considering safest zone with 20m and running fast on 10 for scaling, the real lesson is leverage and staying safe and growing slowly until you have deep knowledge of achieving quantum leap

I didn't want to say anything before, but let me just show mercy. Except God specifically asks you to go, please stay back. You'd thank me later.
N.B. If you disregard the counsel, with hard work, it will take you another 7 to 10 years to be able to save the equivalent of that money, and you may lose your mind in the process. It's very difficult in to save money in English-speaking countries abroad.

Return on invest, by going to the UK is almost 100%.

But if you invest in Nigeria, the chances that business surviving is less than 20%

So it is best you secure your investment, by going to the UK

The only thing UK, Europe or the West have over Naija, is quality of life and organized environment nothing more.

I will advise you invest your 30m wisely in Naija and with time you will still go to UK for holidays.

If I had 30m, I would have stayed back. This place is tempting, once you step in here and start doing well, you will not want to go back to Naija.
Re: Would You Rather Travel To UK With 30 Million Or Invest In Nigeira? by abdsamad(m): 11:59am On May 06
Stop thinking about it as a stay or leave thing.

Think more about life in a broader context.

Honestly, it's not even just the 30m. It's a lot of money and it's also not a lot of money, depending on what you're planning.

If you have the opportunity to establish yourself here and that money allows you to do so, then it's worth considering.

Leaving has a lot of hurdles beyond the 30m. Your age, marital status etc factor into it.

It's not possible to give you the best advise when i don't know you.

Maybe the best i can say is that unless this is something you need to decide rn or the funding slips away, don't let yourself feel rushed. Take your time.

If you didn't have the 30m, what was your plan. What were you already doing well. Maybe the 30m can help make that work even better. These are some of the things I'd think about.

Cheers

I understand your point and on paper, that strategy is solid.

Capital preservation with ₦20m, then using ₦10m to take calculated risks while compounding over time that’s textbook wealth-building.
But the issue is the environment you’re applying it in.

In a stable economy, that approach works perfectly. You can safely park funds, earn predictable returns, and deploy the rest into opportunities that scale.
In Nigeria today, the variables are less predictable

Inflation can quietly wipe out safe returns
Policy changes can affect even low-risk instruments.

The real sector (where the ₦10m goes) is highly unstable and cost-intensive
So while the idea of “stay safe + scale gradually” is correct, the execution risk in this environment is much higher than theory suggests.

Also, with ₦30m, this isn’t just a portfolio decision it’s a life positioning decision. That’s why some of us are leaning toward relocation or systems with more stability, even if returns are slower.
You’re thinking like an investor, which is valid.
But in this case, the bigger question is, is the environment worthy of that strategy right now?
