Have you traveled by air before?

How was the experience?

Come share some tips for first timers.

Here is mine:

Flight was scheduled to leave by 4:35 from jos airport to Lagos via Abuja.

Flight ticket was booked and I headed straight to the airport, we did weighing of luggage and straight to the ticket booth where I submitted my booking ticket and passport.

My bag was tagged and sent to the loading truck.

We then went to the immigration section and checked after which I was shown to the waiting hall for departures.

Flight arrived from Lagos and touched down at 4:15pm in Jos with Abuja and jos passengers, when they finish alighting an announcement came from that their loud speaker and we lined up for ticket checks and body check then straight to boarding.

After we had sat down in the plane the hostesses welcomed us on board and the normal demonstration about safety started, I was just calm and over calm that gave me away sha. But I don’t think anybody noticed.

The plane taxied to the runway and I was eager to feel the speed rush. And when it was time for take off I smiled when the plane engaged the engine for speed.

I sha fasten my seat belt very well and I sat close the the window.

My stomach did one kind fine sweet feeling like this and it was awesome. Had some turbulence because of weather but it was a cool flight that day.

My first time of flying was in 1978, I was still a boy then and my whole family was travelling.

I remember one funny experience I had one time about 18 years ago...

We were flying from Owerri Airport to Lagos Airport, usually when the plane touches down everyone will still remain in their seats while the plane taxis down to the apron to park after which they will open the doors then passengers start to disembark.

On this occasion immediately the plane landed this guy just jumped out of his seat and ran to the door.

It was when he got to the door and realized that no one was following him to drag the door with him, instead we were all still seated he sheepishly went back to his seat.

Embarrassment wan kee the guy that day cheesy

I think that was his first time of flying so he probably thought he was in a Molue bus where passengers rush to the door immediately the driver gets to the bus stop. 😂

It was so hilarious 😂

26 years after my first flight experience and flying is still not my thing. Douala -Frankfurt. Despite all the heightened expectations of a new student life abroad the flight was like many others to follow. That fearful feeling of the plane will drop off. Imagine a 7 hours flight of severe fright

I was expecting seat belt error and deeper illustration of the turbulence. I said a prayer upon take off during mine as I wasn't sure how my tummy was reacting to the takeoff

Lol dude was acclamatized to the rough side of life already. Something of this nature happen to me in secondary school. My mum had financial constraints when I was in my last year's in primary school so she withdrew me to a public. Rough tough life. And I just evolved into it naturally. Instead of buttery, we had under a tree where Iya Lara do sell her wares, and most students in this place hardly bring food from home hence the rush and all to get to the place and buy food. Well..... I started refusing my mum packing me lunch and I was contended with 20naira money for food. Jss2, mum got a great job and took me to this school......... Damn I was like a fish out of water. Instead of mango trees, they have a buttery where students do more of seating to eat then buying snacks. Na only me dey always run from class once I hear break time. Very embarrassing those days before my mind was conditioned back to the normal human reasoning.

It was i and my kids then, from lagos to Kigali, then from Kigali to London. The lagos to Kigali trip didn't really scare me cos it was during the day and the plane was small, but from Kigali to London, I saw big plane, was scared, when the plane took off, see trembling, see fear, Oh boy, I couldn't sleep all through the flight from 11:30 pm to 7 am, I couldn't sleep through out the night, my kids didn't even shake, they were just enjoying their cartoon and they later slept. I was like how could this big bird be flying in the dark. The taking off and landing was scary. My kids were just making jest of me when we got to London. Sorry, just had to type this way, I am at work.

My Experience Flight was scheduled for 10am , we arrived early, because it was children's day, my dad drove the car , we where so excited that finally we got to fly, my Dad booked a ticket for us, at the National Amusement Park, Apapa area.

Then it was time to board, first, i was not scared until, we took off and everyone was screaming... Until for about 10 minutes into the flight.

It was a memorable experience back then thank you daddy!
Re: Share Your First Time Flight Experience by YorubaPrince: 2:57pm On May 06
My first flight experience was a KLM flight back in December 2000 from Lagos - Amsterdam - NY. It was me, my mum and sister. It was also a ~6hrs night flight. cool

It was very memorable indeed. We had a 1st class experience throughout the flights. Immediately we got to Europe, I was looking down to see the beautiful lights beneath. Since I was a huge soccer fan, I started imagining my favorite European soccer teams and the experience of European Champions Leagues' nights. cool

After we landed in Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, we waited couple of hours before finally leaving for NY in a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. It was also a 1st class. The trip felt like forever till we eventually landed in NY. I was so overwhelmed and anxious to see what the outside looked like. cool

As I was about to go outside too meet my ride, I heard the shouts of "UP NEPA !!!" grin grin grin

My mum yelled at me to go and wash the dishes and plates in the sink. grin

It was a dream after all... sad sad sad E pain me die. I tried forcing myself back to sleep to eventually enter NYC only to be met by a resounding back slap from my mom. sad

First time was in 2024.
Flew "Air peace" from Abuja to Lagos.

Had my heart in my mouth all through the journey. Funny thing was, months after I booked my flight ticket, Facebook started suggesting "Plane crash" videos in my news feed.

I can literally tell you every single plane crash from 1980's till date. On the day of the journey, I arrived Nmandi Azikiwe airport quite early, 4 hours before hand. Well, I was cooking from Markurdi, so that explains my timing. Didn't want to hear any story.

Got to the airport early and in addition to my waiting time, the flight was delayed, I mean a 6pm flight delayed to almost 4am the next morning. This further worsened my anxiety.

People were complaining in the airport, some almost beat up airpeace staffs. Omo, I just they observe. You know nau, first time flyer, I can't be disturbed.

We sha landed in Lagos successfully. But I could feel every single turn of the plane, every move, every bumb. My brain was in a high alert state.

Sighed a heavy breathe when the plane touched down. Was a mix of happiness and fear. Was the longest 50 mins of my entire life.

Well, ever since then, we've gone on many now including international too.
Has the fear gone, no never.

April 2012, I was to travel to Lagos by road from Kaduna for a friend's wedding but my younger brother (God rest his beautiful soul) said I gotcha big sis. He was scheduled to attend a function in Lagos around that time so he booked our flights for about noon ish. Instead of going to the airport straight, I stopped to collect D*** from my on & off boyfriend Femi (e no go better for am). Lol. My brother was already at the airport, pissed while waiting for him. The ticketing officer or whatever they call them had an emergency (her house was being demolished) so she went berserk ad abandoned her desk leaving us stranded until the final boarding was announced. That was how we lost our flights including a senior military officer who was also supposed to be on that flight. We were attended to but asked to pay extra 11k so my brother paid 22k for us sha.
That was how they rescheduled our flight to the last flight for the day, I think 7:45 or thereabout.
So after the long wait, we finally checked in. We didn't know exactly what to do or expect so we watched the other passengers who also missed their flights were doing. We checked in and finally got onto the plane. We were all giggly and excited like kids excited about their favorite candy. We started looking for our seats and found it. My seat was the window seat but my brother begged me so he could see the view even though it was already dark. At that moment, he reminded me why he wanted us to fly during the day so he could see everything clearly. I had to apologise to him.
So we sat down and a lady also sat at the 3rd seat. She brought out her phone a Blackberry and removed her battery. We brought out ours and did the same not knowing why. She saw what we did and smiled. She had to explain that she did tat just to save her battery and we told her that was why we did that too. She wasn't convinced but wetin concern her? Anyways, the take off was smooth because we were expecting something else. You know how you see some people throw up or act funny in movies during take off so we were actually expecting that sort of stuff but disappointingly, nothing happened. The flight was smooth until we landed at Lagos Airport.

Forgive my gbagun please!

Nice of you to recount your experience.
But unless you are flying international, you are not likely to go thru immigration.
It's either the Airline officials at the boarding area or the security check counter.

kudos to you and more flights in the days and years ahead.

My first flight was over 20 years ago in a 12 seater private plane owned/operated by a state Government. I was going with a man who was a top Govt official and would later be Governor 3 years later.

I was considered a PowerPoint Guru! grin back then and he need a tech person to accompany him to abuja for a presentation.

So I had his typed out speech and I converted it to a power point for him while he made inputs on what he wanted.

Be diligent at whatever you do, you do not know what will make room for you.
