Aba To Get NOUN Study Centre by ogugwa1992(op): 12:22pm On May 06
Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has directed relevant officials to commence the search for a temporary site for a study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Aba.

Otti gave the directive while receiving the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, who paid him a courtesy visit at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

He said the Commissioner for Tertiary Education and the Managing Director of the Greater Aba Development Authority, should begin the process, pending the construction of a permanent facility in the city.

The governor said the decision followed a request by the vice-chancellor for policy direction on the establishment of a study centre in Aba.

He described Aba as a major commercial hub that should not be without a NOUN study centre.

Otti noted that open and distance learning had evolved significantly with the aid of technology, including platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom, which had enhanced knowledge sharing.

“In view of the role NOUN is playing in advancing education, it is imperative that Aba has a study centre,” he said.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to educational development through the recruitment, training and retraining of teachers.

Otti assured the university of the government’s support towards the establishment of the centre in Aba.

The governor also directed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education to liaise with the management of the Umuahia study centre of NOUN to identify areas where the state could assist in improving facilities.

Earlier, Uduma said he was in the state to seek government support and policy direction for the establishment of a study centre in Aba.

He said NOUN was committed to expanding access to education through open and distance learning, as well as promoting inclusiveness.

According to him, study centres serve as critical access points, and Aba, being one of the largest cities in the country, deserves such a facility.

Uduma added that the institution was willing to partner with governments and organisations to broaden educational opportunities.

He also highlighted the growing global importance of open and distance learning, noting that many universities now operate a dual mode of education delivery.

The vice-chancellor thanked the governor for the warm reception and for granting the university audience despite his busy schedule.

This is yet another in the series of heart-warming and great news that have almost been taken for granted in today's Great Abia State (as every day comes with at least one cheering breaking news). This news really made my day!

{I'm proud to be an alumnus of NOUN.
But let me warn that NOUN is not for the academically weak.
You must be a bookworm to scale through NOUN programs.}

Overall, if you ask me, establishing a NOUN Study Center in Aba is overdue!

Congratulations to Dr Alex Chioma Otti and Abians on yet another of the many milestones that have dotted the length and breadth of the New Abia State.

Unlike in other schools, you can't copy your friends, you are mixed with may be 100level students as a masters students, na who you want copy? Like me, I am also doing my masters, I don't know any of my class mates so who I wan ask for tip on a question? If you don't know an answer, you don't know.

But I love it, there is no form of cheating. Your hard work reflects in your grade.
