Governor Alex Otti Approves Feasibility Study For Proposed Abia Seaport

We received a delegation from the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited led by Mr. Nicolas Liu, where we discussed the proposed Azumini - Obeaku Sea Port and Inland Waterways Corridor project in Abia State.

I have granted approval for an immediate feasibility study on the project. While the company initially suggested a six to seven-month timeline, I have directed that the study be completed within a shorter period so that progress can be accelerated.

Alongside the study, we will begin the process of securing approvals from the Presidency, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Blue Economy. I have also encouraged the team to visit the proposed site to assess its viability, given its proximity to the High Sea and the technical requirements such as dredging.

The project has the potential to transform Abia State’s economy and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s maritime development. With strong commitment, proper funding, and strategic partnerships, we can make the Azumini Sea Port a reality.

I thank the team from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited for their presentation and look forward to positive outcomes from the feasibility study.

Every Igbo man on earth would like to read that feasibility report to be conducted by the Chinese.

I remember so years ago when wirinet and minorityopinion was arguing that 'tribal and regional' factors is not part of the reason why Eastern ports are left in the doldrums.

Lets read a neutral report from the Chinese this time.

This project is highly feasible. Azumini simply means back of the sea leads directly to the blue sea. My Dad told me they used that route a lot for sea operations during the Biafran war. From there it is also easy to access the Ocean especially towards Calabar down to Cameron.

east is surrounded by land.the coastal way runs along _Africa boundary, where all southern states are located,which is also the end of africa meeting Atlantic ocean.is it river Niger u want to join to high sea.does he want to dredge the whole river Niger to Mali? This is an emotional project.a waste of funds and definitely a white elephant project.a functioning sea port is less than 50 km away in portharcort and ibeto group an igboman already has a seaport that is functional. Why trying to dredge the imo river to use barges to bring in container.can abia state government maintain continuous dredging of the river that is filled with sharp sand every rainy season ? It is already a failed project. The best thing to do with that funds is to build a reliable train line between abia and rivers state to move goods and people seamlessly

Are Abians drinking water from shitty boreholes like Lagosians and other Nigerians

It is by far better than Enugu.

500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. Yet they prance around like Enugu is Abuja even though the red muddy soil will have residents looking like they went tomb-raiding at night.

But then, considering where it was before Peter Mba, one can understand the accolades being that he moved the town from 16th Century to 17th Century but not anywhere near 20th Century. 21st Century is a stretch. EEDC? The worst of all.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

Gbam! Given our poor maintenance culture along with massive corruption, can the Abia state government maintain the river? Why can can the FG along with the Eastern governors build a fast cargo rail line from PortHarcourt or Calabar port direct to their states. That alone would boost the commercial and industrial development of the whole south east.

Extensive dredging is expensive to implement and maintain. Its also difficult to secure a narrow river channel from pirates and terrorists. The whole of US might cannot secure the narrow strait of Hormuz from Iranian small attack boats and drones.
