The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has expressed deep outrage over the renewed wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, which has once again claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, aka (BILLIONCODES), Coordinator, NANS Southwest (Zone D), said the recent killing of two Nigerians is not just an isolated tragedy but a painful reminder of a recurring pattern of hostility and violence against our people.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end,” he said.

According to the statement, NANS Southwest is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.

“This contradiction will no longer be tolerated,” the statement said.

It, therefore, called on the South African government and relevant authorities to urgently demonstrate a genuine commitment to protecting foreign nationals, particularly Nigerians, and to ensure that justice is served in all reported cases of violence.

The statement pointed out that silence, delayed responses, or symbolic gestures will not suffice, stressing that the safety, dignity, and rights of Nigerians must be guaranteed, not negotiated.

NANS Southwest also assured that it will remain open to dialogue and constructive engagement with South African business representatives, diplomatic channels, and international stakeholders toward resolving this crisis.

It, however, made it clear that Nigerian students will not stand idly by while the lives of their compatriots are endangered.

The South African government better act fast as xenophobia is about to affect a lot of diplomatic relations with other countries.

Apart from Shoprite declining, many other South African companies are doing well. Here is a short list.

Who are the causes of all that you stated above. Definitely not the students but the environment they find themselves, including you.

Wrong to target MTN and DSTV. Multi-national businesses , operating in several nations, do not have identities exclusive to their home nation.

MTN and DSTV staff in Nigeria will be Nigerians in majority. They will be affected by any effort to punish MTN and DSTV.

What South Africans are doing is condemnable and shameful. I just read the plight of a Nigerian, Peter Odike, married to a South African and naturalised having been in South African for 20 years.

His three kids are being bullied in school over the tension this xenophobia stand-off has caused because their father is Nigerian.

This is terrible and South Africans should be ashamed of their behaviour. Kids for God sake?

Nigerians never do this. We don't bully anyone in our nation and hardly care where any non-Nigerian in Nigeria is from.

In fact, Nigerians even go out of their way to protect and assir foreigners more than their own.


That said, targeting SA businesses in Nigeria is not wise. This is an issue concerning international relations. Our politicians and diplomats should work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians in South Africa.

They should take SA Government to task and seek justice for the two Nigerians killed due to xenophobic violence. Yet it is crucial to not let this become about ego and machismo.

This is an issue for politicians and diplomats to resolve.

Shoprite, Mtn and dstv is own by white people and not some useless blacks.

If the white people separates from black South Africans. Somalia will be better than South Africa. Their banks are weak. Nigeria banks are better.

Black South Africans dont have any company not even outside South African. They are poor and bitted forcing employers to employ them just because they own the country and not base on productiveness.
