I told the air hostess to tell the pilot to stop at the next junction that I wanted to pee.
She smiled, held my hand and led me to the pee room.
Let me cross my legs here and wait to read lie lie comments

I always keep a small snack and water bottle handy because the wait before takeoff can feel long. I also grab a window seat to help calm any tension.
Nice!
Tell us about the "grabbing a window seat" part please.
Is it like walking into a bus and taking any window seat you like?

My first ever flight was way back in 1989. All I remember was that the food given to me on the plane was different from the type of food I was used to.
Re: Share Your First Time Flight Experience by EmmyMaestro(m): 5:16pm On May 06
Mine was that we had taken off and the plane was cruising in the clouds. I was relaxing and enjoying the flight then the flight attendants started serving the food. She was pretty and had nice shape and the way she was smiling an talking when she came to me, I could feel that she was flirting with me and I was trying to flirt back. When I gave her a hand shake, I made sure I held her hand in such a way that she would know that I'm feeling her. Then we locked eyes and from the way she smiled, I knew she the message was passed then as we were smiling at each other, the next thing I heard was someone tapping my shoulder hard and loud shout saying "Emmy wake up NEPA HAVE BROUGHT THE LIGHT".

That is when I realized it was all a dream

I’d seen the inside of a plane in movies long before I ever stepped onto one. Because of that, my first flight an international trip from Nigeria to Ethiopia on Ethiopian Airlines, didn't feel all that exciting, I felt like I'd seen it all on TV already.

No it's not.

There's what we call 'check in'
You can check in yourself online days/hours before the flight or you just go to the counter at the airport on the day of your flight to check in.
So if you check in yourself, you have the liberty of picking a seat of your choice unlike the other option where a seat will be allocated to you by the check in officers. You can actually tell them to give you a window seat if it's available.

First time was in 2024.
Flew "Air peace" from Abuja to Lagos.

Had my heart in my mouth all through the journey. Funny thing was, months after I booked my flight ticket, Facebook started suggesting "Plane crash" videos in my news feed.

I can literally tell you every single plane crash from 1980's till date. On the day of the journey, I arrived Nmandi Azikiwe airport quite early, 4 hours before hand. Well, I was cooking from Markurdi, so that explains my timing. Didn't want to hear any story.

Got to the airport early and in addition to my waiting time, the flight was delayed, I mean a 6pm flight delayed to almost 4am the next morning. This further worsened my anxiety.

People were complaining in the airport, some almost beat up airpeace staffs. Omo, I just they observe. You know nau, first time flyer, I can't be disturbed.

We sha landed in Lagos successfully. But I could feel every single turn of the plane, every move, every bumb. My brain was in a high alert state.

Sighed a heavy breathe when the plane touched down. Was a mix of happiness and fear. Was the longest 50 mins of my entire life.

Well, ever since then, we've gone on many now including international too.
Has the fear gone, no never.
I can relate. Mine was in 2007 Oct from Lagos to PH (Arik air), had my hearth in my mouth through out the Journey, had to be praying through out the flight.

My big sister made sure I was comfortable and not be a JJC in any way. It was fun cause I traveled with about 5 more family members and we booked seats close to ourselves - gisting all the way, especially with my kid sister, we were the aproko of the family. I took a window seat and I realised more the awesomeness of God when the houses were tiny at first from the sky, before they became more visible and bigger. It only got a bit scary when we were about to land and we were hovering around for a bit. Lagos weather was bad, it was cloudy and about to rain, but God took control. I love it!
Re: Share Your First Time Flight Experience by savcy(m):
First flight happened this year. It was from PH to Lagos, and back. The heights scared me a lot. Looking down the window was traumatising in a way. Lots of weird thoughts flowed through my mind all through the flight, but thank God for safe travels. I observed the ears get temporarily blocked when planes hit 20,000ft plus. First time experiencing turbulence isn't funny at all. Those patches of dark clouds you see up in the sky trap a mass of air that troubles planes. I almost lost my mind. And, when you arrive just before MM2 or are departing to PH, there's this weird turn planes make. If it's your first time, you could lose your composure with the experience when that turn happens. See ehn, flights are a miracle. 🤣🤣

Re: Share Your First Time Flight Experience by Originalsly:
First time flying was an international flight. On board...seated ... I did not know how to buckle the seat belt. Thanks to the person who sat next to me... I was in compliance. The plane taxied to the head of the runway ...stopped ...and the engines began to roar as if flying but the brakes were on ...I can hear the power in the engines. When the brakes were released... the acceleration was not what I remotely expected. I was shocked that such a huge thing...loaded with sooo many passengers and sooo much load can accelerate that fast out of the blocks.... like for the first five seconds it was already over 100 mph. I was pinned to the back of the seat ...and looking through the window... anything close by was just a blur.... you can feel the tires in contact with the runway ... ...as if speeding on a not so smooth road. Then came the lift off... the rumbling suddenly ended and there is a sort of eerie silence and at the same time it felt like someone was tilting the seat backward ...wayyy backward as the plane shot up in the air at a pretty steep angle. Then I got nervous ...because once airborne.... the take off speed seemed to reduce significantly...as if the engines stalled and worse ... the plane made a turn to get on its route. I thought planes turned like cars on the road ... pretty level ...with just a little lean. They turn like motor bikes... they lean ...and that one leaned real bad..Then when it leaned .... I felt like the plane was dropping.... that's the sensation.. Looking down... judging from how fast we were covering distance over land.... it seemed like we were travelling at 30 mph .... the same speed planes wayyy up in the sky seem to be travelling .....slow . We got up to 38 000 feet .....then my ears began to ring. Gradually I couldn't hear what was being said . I chewed gum and did all what people said to do ... my hearing was almost all gone ... drowned out by the ringing. It took a few days to return to normal. The landing was another worry. When the plane was making the approach to touch down......it slows down.... felt like it was stalling...too slow to remain airborne ... was praying the pilot increase speed before it was too late ... felt like it was flying at 30 miles an hour. It floated but the moment it touched the runway.... no doubt...it was actually travelling at over 100 mph. You can feel and see the speed on ground. It immediately began to brake ....then as though travelling faster than sound.... the tremendous roar of the engine caught up to us.....even my ringing ears couldn't escape the powerful sound.. On subsequent flights..... as soon as my hearing began to fade....I opened my mouth as wide as possible...as if trying to force it open wider that it can....take a deep breath in through my mouth which cause me to yawn. The yawn pops the eardrum back into position and the ears are once again ready to welcome gossips and whatever be hovering in the air . Still reading??

Busting through the clouds .... has no effect on the flight except scenery!

Lagos to Mai via asman air. When we took off, it was as if there was water in my ear. I hadn't dip my head into water so, I know it's just gravity.
Re: Share Your First Time Flight Experience by sirabbey(m): 9:51pm On May 06
My first flight was in 2010. It was a Monday, I had just gotten married on the previous Saturday, and was on my way from Lagos to Calabar for a 1-week honeymoon getaway at Obudu Cattle Ranch. My bride did not know it was my first time flying, so I had to compose myself and not give myself away. The takeoff was a little frightful, but I maintained steeze and did not betray my JJC. Landing was smooth as a feather, thanks to the highly experienced Captain in charge.
That fateful first ride has opened doors to several flights, both local and international, that I have lost count of flying. Indeed, the spouse you settle with in life is a major determinant of how your life will be. I blessed God for mine....16years and still counting, it has been favour, peace, progress, and blessings all the way.

Have you traveled by air before?

How was the experience?

Come share some tips for first timers.

Here is mine:

Flight was scheduled to leave by 4:35 from jos airport to Lagos via Abuja.

Flight ticket was booked and I headed straight to the airport, we did weighing of luggage and straight to the ticket booth where I submitted my booking ticket and passport.

My bag was tagged and sent to the loading truck.

We then went to the immigration section and checked after which I was shown to the waiting hall for departures.

Flight arrived from Lagos and touched down at 4:15pm in Jos with Abuja and jos passengers, when they finish alighting an announcement came from that their loud speaker and we lined up for ticket checks and body check then straight to boarding.

After we had sat down in the plane the hostesses welcomed us on board and the normal demonstration about safety started, I was just calm and over calm that gave me away sha. But I don’t think anybody noticed.

The plane taxied to the runway and I was eager to feel the speed rush. And when it was time for take off I smiled when the plane engaged the engine for speed.

I sha fasten my seat belt very well and I sat close the the window.

My stomach did one kind fine sweet feeling like this and it was awesome. Had some turbulence because of weather but it was a cool flight that day.
My FIRST EVER flight was via a Nigeria Airways DC-10 back in 1980 and it was a 1-hour domestic flight. Nigeria Airways had massive fleets of aircraft back then from Fokker F-27s, DC-10s, Boeing 727s, Boeing 737s, Boeing 747s, etc. I've had several flights since then within Nigeria and internationally.
