Lagos To Charge Motorists For Street Parking by kingjayzeelan07(op): 12:27am On May 08
Lagos State will begin charging motorists for parking on designated streets before the end of 2026, the Lagos State Parking Authority has announced.

The General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed this while briefing the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Akeem Dauda, and his management team during a stakeholder engagement visit.

This was contained in a statement by the Head, Public Affairs, LASPA, Dunkwu Divine, on Wednesday.

Adelabu said the On-Street Parking Scheme will commence as a pilot in selected Local Government Areas including Ikeja and is designed to bring order to parking on Lagos streets, ease traffic congestion and create jobs for residents within the designated areas.

The On-Street Parking Scheme will improve parking management, enhance traffic flow and generate employment opportunities, particularly for residents within the selected areas,” she stated.

The LASPA boss also clarified the authority’s mandate, noting that responsibility for parking management was originally domiciled with local government areas across the state before the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas formally ceded it to LASPA.

She added that LGAs and LCDAs stand to benefit from the initiative based on their level of cooperation, urging local authorities to actively support its implementation. Mrs. Adelabu also reaffirmed LASPA’s openness to inputs and suggestions from stakeholders to ensure a smooth rollout.

Responding, the Ikeja LGA Chairman welcomed the development, pledging the council’s support, while calling for wider public sensitization to prepare residents ahead of the scheme’s commencement.

With Lagos grappling with chronic traffic gridlock and disorderly roadside parking, authorities say the scheme represents a significant step toward more structured and sustainable urban mobility management in Africa’s largest city.

Chaotic roadside parking has long been identified as a major contributor to the gridlock that plagues Lagos, particularly in high-traffic commercial districts such as Ikeja, Lagos Island, Surulere and Apapa.

Vehicles parked indiscriminately on roadsides routinely narrow carriageways, obstruct traffic flow and frustrate commuters, with economic consequences running into billions of naira in lost productivity annually.

He just wants to import all the mechanisms of extortion abroad to Nigeria! Unfortunately, he is taxing people who provide everything for themselves, unlike what is obtained in the countries he wants to emulate.

Honestly, I am scared of the Jagaban's second tenure; it would be tantamount to Abija on steroids.

Unfortunately, he has no viable contenders in the opposition!

Increase tax burden on people by all means necessary and provide zero benefits to them, in terms of basic services and utilities by an adequate number of well paid civil servants.

Is this not Tinubu’s lootocracy master plan that has held 20 million Lagosians in his bondage since 1999?

Is this what other governors are emulating? Is this what he is using for all Nigerians from his Aso Rock residence?

The eyesore on Bourdillon Road
2nd January 2025

Beyond his neighbours, there is something about the sight of people hanging around a president’s residence that does not speak well of his leadership capabilities. Maybe no one has nudged him to see it, but the impression that spectacle on Bourdillon Road generates is that Tinubu enjoys the sight of suffering humans and thrives in—and through— their poverty.

If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.

That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. That spurious account was an indication that this is a man for whom poverty—of others, not himself—is an ideal.

Do they drink water from shitty boreholes in the UK huh

It is by far better than Enugu.

500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. Yet they prance around like Enugu is Abuja even though the red muddy soil will have residents looking like they went tomb-raiding at night.

But then, considering where it was before Peter Mba, one can understand the accolades being that he moved the town from 16th Century to 17th Century but not anywhere near 20th Century. 21st Century is a stretch. EEDC? The worst of all.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

Re: Lagos To Charge Motorists For Street Parking by DeLaRue: 4:15am On May 08
Having a paid-for, officially designated, on-street parking might be a better arrangement than what we have presently in Lagos.

Right now, you are not even sure if you can park in some places without your car being towed away.

In some cases, even shop owners will not let you park in front of their shops - on a public road!

Let the government mark parking spots. That way, drivers, tow vehicles, and shop owners know exactly where they stand.

Re: Lagos To Charge Motorists For Street Parking by epainos: 4:47am On May 08
This is a very good policy. Excellent. You even see people abandon old vehicles in the streets causing obstruction everywhere. When you start paying heavily, no one will teach you to make a car park in your compound. Also, people will make business out of this by making creating car parks everywhere. Just imagine how Lagos inner streets and corners are going to be free.

In Lagos, the madness of streets parking is notorous such that wide streets (as wide as 4 lanes) many times are turned to a single lane. And the minimum all streets should have should be double lanes. This is so great. Very good.

Infact, I pray the fees arent just tokens but heavy pays. As in heavy such that those who abandoned vehicles in the street will run to dispose them fast. I kuku trust Lagos officials...they will milk them very well. Make dem milk people like that.
