2027 POLLS: OBI, YUNUSA REMAIN AUTHENTIC LEADERS OF OBIDIENT MOVEMENT — SUPPORTERS REJECT PURPORTED SACKING


Supporters of Peter Obi and key movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko have dismissed reports claiming that both men were sacked from the Obidient Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strong reaction issued on Friday, loyal members of the movement described the announcement by a group attempting to rebrand the movement as “misleading, unauthorised, and politically motivated.”
According to the supporters, the Obidient Movement remains firmly aligned with its founding ideals and leadership under Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko, insisting that no faction or self-appointed group has the authority to remove or replace them.

“The Obidient Movement was built on the vision, credibility, and grassroots support inspired by Peter Obi and coordinated by committed leaders like Yunusa Tanko. Any attempt to hijack or rename the movement for selfish political interests should be ignored by Nigerians and genuine supporters,” the statement read.

The supporters further stressed that the movement was created organically by millions of Nigerians seeking accountable leadership, transparency, and national development, adding that its identity cannot be altered through unilateral declarations by individuals seeking relevance.

They also clarified that the movement has not recognised any parallel leadership structure, warning members and the public to remain vigilant against groups falsely presenting themselves as the authentic voice of the Obidient family.
“Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko remain the recognised leaders and symbols of the Obidient Movement. Any faction claiming otherwise does not represent the collective will of genuine Obidients,” the statement added.


The development comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with observers noting that the Obidient Movement continues to maintain significant grassroots influence across Nigeria.
