Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) News has released an interview with local journalist Masara Kim Usman, who was present during a harrowing gunmen assault on a mass burial in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred on May 6, turned a solemn funeral into another scene of bloodshed, highlighting the persistent insecurity plaguing Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.

In the interview, Kim, a reporter for Truth Nigeria and longtime chronicler of violence in Plateau State, described the chaos firsthand. He recounted how attackers emerged from surrounding hills and opened fire on mourners who had gathered in the Fan District (also referred to as Ndang village) to bury seven victims killed in a prior overnight raid on May 5. According to Kim, the assailants targeted the crowd as graves were being dug, with one local defender shot and killed instantly while trying to shield civilians. “I witnessed a man being shot right before me,” Kim told CBN, adding that the situation escalated rapidly amid reports of simultaneous attacks on multiple nearby communities.

The initial May 5 attack in the area, including the Hwol Gassa community, left at least two people dead and two injured, according to Kim’s earlier reporting. The mass burial the following day was intended as a hurried farewell for those victims—including reports of an entire family among the deceased—but was disrupted by the fresh violence. Eyewitness videos circulating online show panicked mourners fleeing the site, with some footage capturing open fields and disturbed burial grounds under overcast skies.
