Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Assumes Office As Foreign Affairs Minister by Pakute(op): 8:37pm On May 08
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu on Friday officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs following her elevation by President Bola Tinubu.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, was elevated after the resignation of former minister, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down on March 30 to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the minister was received on arrival by senior directors of the ministry led by the Permanent Secretary, Dunoma Ahmed, alongside heads of agencies under the ministry.

The agencies represented included the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Technical Aid Corps, the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa, and the Foreign Service Academy.

Welcoming the minister, Ahmed described her appointment as a reflection of her dedication and professionalism, expressing confidence in her ability to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and international partnerships.

He also assured her of the ministry’s support in advancing the Federal Government’s foreign policy priorities, including the protection of Nigerians abroad, promotion of peace and security, and attraction of foreign investment.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by heads of agencies under the ministry and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to Economic Community of West African States, Olawale Emmanuel Awe.

In her remarks, Odumegwu-Ojukwu thanked the ministry’s staff for the reception and pledged to consolidate the achievements of the ministry under the Tinubu administration.

The statement noted that she “reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining and consolidating the achievements of the Ministry under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The minister also stressed the need for professionalism, institutional efficiency, innovation and unity in addressing global challenges and advancing Nigeria’s interests internationally.

They will still not be satisfied with this gigantic position despite giving Tinubu 0.5%. Tinubu is just giving them juicy appointments left and right. He will never behave like Buhari who famously referred to them as "dot in a circle".
Thank God, Tinubu boys have put the South East in the bag for 2027. This time around, we are going to give an APC senator from the East the position of Senate President in 2027 as it is very certain that APC will win at least 10 senates and four states for Tinubu grin

Congratulations to her. Her people won't criticise this when Pbat replaced Adelabu from oyo state with Tegbe from oyo state. They started wailing. Do they really want to collect oyo state slot in federal executive Council?

Ambassadors report to the President directly.

As Minister she only handles the logistical aspects of their designation.

Every ambassadorial nominee was chosen on the confidence of the President that they will provide accurate briefing and advise on how to relate to the country they are posted.

The position of ambassador is not subject to ministerial oversight when it comes to advicing and briefing the President.

In as much as a would love to appreciate the president for elevating her as against bringing in a new minister (mostly Yoruba) to replace the now resigned Tuggar, I sincerely believe that Tinubu's scorecard from the South East and South South in the forthcoming presidential elections will be worse than 2023 (though it is estimated that fewer voters will turn out to vote).

Let it not be mistaken, the City Boy Movement in those places (SS/SE) are nothing but cash cows for the ogas at the helm in those regions.

Having said that, the Tinubu I know will not lose the 2027 general elections. If push comes to shove, baba go scatter everything.

Like it is said, 4×4 = 8

If it is good for a failure like Buhari with no single economic reform in 8yrs to rule that long, I do not see a crime in Asiwaju doing same even with the painful but necessary and shabbily implemented economic reforms of his.

For the records, I'm an Obi supporter, voted for him in 2023 and will do same again in 2027.

Let Nigeria win in the end.

Amen.

Baba save your energy.

Tinubu can't win the next election, those guys in ADC used to be very close to him and know his playbook very well.

He is one of the most unpopular Presidents in Nigerian recorded history. His Lagos playbook is being replicated in Abuja and being observed by opposition.

He has no choice but to bow to the majority will.
