140 chickens allegedly died from ‘loud wedding music’

A poultry farmer in northern India filed a police complaint after claiming his chickens died while a wedding procession passed near his farm; the DJ was arrested and released on bail

A poultry farmer in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh filed a police complaint after claiming that 140 chickens died because of loud music played during a wedding procession that passed near his farm, NDTV reported.

According to the complaint, the procession took place on the night of April 25 in honor of the daughter of resident Babban Vishwakarma. The procession, which arrived from the Kudwar area, included a sound system playing music at very high volume.

Sabir Ali, who operates the poultry near the village, said the procession passed by his farm at around 9:30 p.m. He said the loud noise panicked the chickens. "The noise was so intense that the chickens got frightened and died," he stated in the complaint.

“The DJ was playing very loud music… I requested him three times, but he did not listen, so I finally called the police control room,” Sabir the poultry farmer told The Indian Express.

Sabir, who raises about 5,300 chickens, estimated his losses at about 25,700 rupees, or roughly $300. He said the DJ initially agreed to compensate him, but fled after police left the scene.

The Indian Express reported that a veterinary post-mortem examination of the deceased birds was conducted the next day and found the cause of death to be heart failure. Local police station chief Mahendra Pratap Singh said the post-mortem findings showed the chickens died of cardiac failure.

Experts note that high-volume sound waves can trigger acute stress responses in animals and, in some cases, lead to cardiac arrest.

DJ owner Kavi Yadav was arrested on suspicion of disturbing public order and causing harm to animals. He was arrested and later released on bail.

As of now, no comment has been issued by the DJ operator or the families of the bride and groom.
