Just before Ronus come to wag their tail that “Nigeria is better because they don’t make the list,” The cost of living, in a non inflated economy, directly proportions the standard of living. |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by richmond500: 10:58am On May 10 |
Nigeria is around 100 dollars |

| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by Goo0dHardDick: 10:59am On May 10 |
APC and Reno will soon come and tell us how Nigerians are enjoying under Tinubu and that how things are so expensive in the UK and USA, meaning Nigeria minimum wage is less than 100$ |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by NaijaNaWaa: 11:00am On May 10 |
DrMB:In spite of Tinubu, Naija cheap cha oo. There’s rarely any other country in the world where things are as cheap as in Nigeria. |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by Basicend: 11:01am On May 10*. Modified: 11:36am On May 10 |
CodeTemplar:Good point. The GDP per capital (PPP) is the major metric to determine the surferrings of the people. Nigeria will be a chief on that list. This subject parameter is flawed because it does not compare it to income ratio. |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by MakindeHassan: 11:02am On May 10 |
Stop posting one sided data that can be misinterpreted. As you post cost of living also post average wage and GDP per capita of each country listed. Luxembourg I know is expensive but their salaries are also high. Cost of living in Nigeria is low on a global scale but because wages are so low here, it feels like the average man cannot survive to provide basic things. We need serious wage review in Nigeria otherwise this economy will come to a halt. No one is spending, businesses are struggling. |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by nairalanda1(m): 11:02am On May 10 |
DrMB:That's nice to know, but Nigeria's government can do better, and much better than what it is doing, and if APC ain't working, vote them out and vote in obi, or atiku, and if they messup, vote them out. We do not need a government of ;roads' , we need a government of industrialization and diversification |

| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by Gerrard59(m): 11:11am On May 10 |
Singapore is largely expensive because of the COE (certificate of entitlement) which is a mandatory requirement for owning a car. If Cayman Islands which is a British Islands territory can be included, Hong Kong too should be included. Lastly, the unifying factor across all high cost living areas is: they've higher salaries compared to neighbouring cities. |

| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by bazoodo: 11:16am On May 10 |
MakindeHassan:lies. Those places on the list are expensive and salaried can't help. That's why they got on the high costs of living indexes in the first place! With 10k USD salary in Singapore you are just average. very average. And most people on sg don't even earn up to that |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by Groovedaddy: 11:18am On May 10 |
Japan and South Korea did not make your list? Discard it |
| Re: Countries with Highest Cost of Living by Charlie2020(f): 11:19am On May 10 |
The data is rubbish if it's not tallied with the average wage in the countries. I'm sure Nigeria will be sitting up there if this is done. DrMB: |

I have visited some of these countries and can confirm that based on my little travels it's true. Nigeria currently has the lowest minimum wage in the entire world with a monthly minimum wage of $64. The average monthly Minimum wage globally measured is $854. Sub-Sahara Africa & South East Asia used to be notorious for exploitative cheap Labour however, the CFA Zone and Ghanian Cedi had a currency strengthen in 2024. The Cost-of-living disparity and significance cannot capture Nigeria based on a weakened & devalued currency and high Purchasers Price Parity (P.P.P). An example of Purchasers Price Parity (P.P.P) is using the Coca-Cola Illustration ; a bottle of Coke in the USA = $1.50 (N2,010) a bottle of Coke in Nigeria = $0.36 (N 500) |
