Obi is just trying to soothe Kwankwaso's ego, so he doesn't change his mind at the last minute about accepting to be vice.
They've already reached an agreement: Obi will do just one term, at which point it will be much easier for Kwankwaso to take over.

Normally, Kwankwaso is bigger than Obi both politically and age-wise. But the reality is that Obi has a much higher chances of winning presidency (based on 2023 presidential election results).
You do not expect someone bigger than you that has agreed to be your subordinate (vice), to still be the one running up and down to your house (Kwankwaso's supporters will not like that).
So what Obi is doing is sensible, logical and politically responsible.
