I logged in because of you.
I became a Chelsea fan in 1997 after Celestine Babayaro joined Chelsea and Seria A (Italian league) was the big deal then so I was also a Milan fan switching between AC and Inter in the Champions league.

Cele Joined in 1997, aged 18/19, becoming the first Nigerian to play for the club.
Spent eight years (1997–2005) at the club.
Trophies Won:
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1998
UEFA Super Cup: 1998
FA Cup: 2000
FA Charity Shield: 2000.

Africans supported and seriously followed top African players as they progressed.
I was surprised to recently see that some Old Egyptians still have photos of our ex internationals in their homes due to our United African front back then.

So it's possible to be a Chelsea fan from Nigeria at that time, especially after our golden boy joined the blues.

I blv you meant that in a good way with some touch of vexatious instincts with recent poor performances and results but, doesn't still mean that person could just have started supporting Chelsea in recent years

As a true fan, we must keep being optimistic no matter what bro. The guy said he's been supporting since 1998, it's very very hard to blv though cuz I don't see the motive to have been family since like 20yrs when Chelsea was just like prime Everton, even Newcastle was a better team or let me say on par with Chelsea of 90s so, I dont blv him. Even those days, NIGERIA League still have more popularity compared to foreign league.
Well, Hassaibank was the reason I became a fan since 2003..
