The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been successfully screened by the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the May 21 governorship primary election.

Fubara was cleared by the APC screening committee at the Plateau Governors Lodge, Abuja, on Saturday.

The Rivers State governor was among the 17 serving governors whose credentials were verified and assessed by the committee.

DAILY POST reports that the Rivers APC primary election may be a tough contest, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, had vowed to cripple Fubara’s re-election bid.

Kingsley Chinda, a loyalist of Wike, was earlier screened and cleared to contest against Fubara in the forthcoming election.

I thought they said that Wike is in charge of both PDP and APC in Rivers state?

If the governor grabs the APC ticket, which party is Wike now going to use to install his next puppet as governor? Is it his faction of PDP that they are still busy arguing whether the recent supreme court ruling affected their national secretary or not? Interesting days ahead

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.

In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.

The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.

Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”

He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”

The last time I checked, Wike is a pdp man, called to serve in an apc-led government in appreciation of his efforts in scuttling the 2023 presidential election in rivers and Nigeria by extension, in favour of Mr tinubu. Since the apc, which is not even his party had already cleared fubara, wike's downfall has begun. He cannot meddle with the apc affairs as a card-carrying member of the pdp at that level.

There are several reasons this apc government is not getting it right. You can never bribe your way into power and think God will back you up. You go apply your wisdom taya and even exhaust it, without any solution. That's what is happening in Nigeria today to the apc. Even Jonathan the clueless had a better government and successful term. Nobody is talking now that crude prices had favoured the apc for years, yet with nothing to show

The Ikwerre in Rivers state ruled for sixteen uninterrupted years through Amaechi and Wike yet never allowed an Ijaw governor drink water and drop his cup and now they want to shorten the tenure of that Ijaw governor to just four years for another Ikwerre man to take over again. Is Ikwerre the only ethnic group in Rivers state ?
