Following the Supreme Court’s final judgment on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership tussle, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reportedly moved to reposition his political base.

According to sources, on Friday night, Wike directed his loyal PDP candidates in Rivers State to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

By Saturday, they had begun the process of obtaining APC nomination forms, signalling a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.

“Wike has moved on following the Supreme Court’s final judgment. On Friday night, he directed his PDP candidates in Rivers State to defect to the APC, and by yesterday (Saturday) they had begun picking up APC nomination forms,” a source disclosed.

The move comes in the wake of the apex court’s ruling, which has intensified speculation about his next political steps ahead of the 2027 elections.

Developments within the party have taken a dramatic turn following the Supreme Court’s final judgment on the PDP leadership tussle.

A Certified True Copy (CTC) of the apex court’s ruling, sighted on Friday by THISDAY, revealed that the faction loyal to Wike lost out in the battle for control of the party.

According to the report, the court unanimously dismissed both Wike’s cross appeal and the main appeal filed by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, which is aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a swift response, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who claims leadership of the PDP, rejected the reported CTC as unofficial.

He insisted that the Supreme Court judgment recognized him as the party’s National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

In a statement, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Haruna Jagunda, dismissed the document being circulated, arguing that it failed to meet the standards required for a properly certified court judgment.

The PDP explained that a careful review of the purported CTC revealed that its pages were neither duly certified, stamped, nor signed by any authorized court official, contrary to established legal procedures.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has become aware of the circulation of a purported Certified True Copy (CTC) of the recent Supreme Court judgment relating to matters concerning the party,” the statement read.

The party insisted that the document failed to meet the recognized standards for certifying official court records and should therefore not be considered an authentic copy of the Supreme Court judgment.

It said, “The PDP wishes to categorically state that the document currently in circulation was not officially released by the Supreme Court. A careful examination of the purported CTC reveals that it falls short of the established requirements for proper certification of official court documents. The pages were neither duly certified, stamped, nor signed by any authorized court officer in accordance with legally recognized procedures.

“However, assuming without conceding that the said CTC was officially released by the Supreme Court, we make bold to state that the contents of the judgment further affirm the defeat suffered by Kabiru Turaki and others from the Federal High Court up to the Supreme Court.

“The contents of the purported Certified True Copy have conclusively exposed the falsehoods and deliberate misinformation circulated by certain individuals regarding the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

There is already problem in the jungle. Finally, Wike will soon become a political orphan. The only hope of Wike today is Tinubu. Even those he is trusting that they are with him will definitely betray him on the long run. The confusion that will hit the APC is still engaging in an aggressive press-up.

Rivers governorship: When the Minority Leader finds comfort in the majority’s bed

In the sweltering heat of Nigeria’s 2027 political "katakata," the line between the hunter and the hunted has finally evaporated. If there were any doubts left that Nigerian politics is a game of musical chairs played on a bed of needles, they were laid to rest earlier on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Screening round, at the Plateau Governor's Lodge, Abuja.

The reported guest of honour? None other than Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, the incumbent Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and a man whose political DNA was thought to be fused with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. APC's National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is the Chairman of this Screening Committee.

Sighted among the "progressives" for the APC governorship screening, Chinda’s appearance felt less like a political crossover and more like a scene from a fever dream. The man who leads the official opposition in the Green Chamber was reportedly being screened for a gubernatorial ticket under the very banner he is paid to oppose.

The return of the ‘kwarikwata’

To understand this development, one must look back to the infamous kwarikwata, the notoriously resilient bed bugs that plagued Nigeria's East soon after the Civil War. Like those itchy invaders, Nigerian politicians have developed a knack for infesting any structure that offers warmth, regardless of how crowded or uncomfortable it becomes.

Politics in Nigeria has become a "kwarikwata" ecosystem: an itchy, frantic struggle for blood and survival where the host (the people) is secondary to the parasite's need to stay fed.

Chinda’s presence at the APC screening is the ultimate itch that the PDP cannot scratch away. It signals a desperation for self-preservation that transcends ideology, manifestos, or even basic logic.

The Wike factor: One harem, two houses

It is no secret that Chinda is a core loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. As the Wike-Fubara feud continues to incinerate the political landscape of Rivers State, it appears the "Wike harem" has decided that if the PDP house is too hot, they will simply annex a wing of the APC.

Observers note that this is not just porting", but it is a strategic occupation. By seeking the APC ticket while holding onto a PDP leadership position, Chinda and his cohorts are performing a high-wire act of political gymnastics. They are protecting their territory, their grip on Rivers State, by ensuring they have a foot in every door, even if it means kicking those doors down.

The desperation of the Harem

Why would a Minority Leader risk such a public spectacle? The answer lies in the primal instinct of the Nigerian political class: self-survival.

The harem mentality: In the fight to protect their political fiefdoms, loyalty is not to a party, but to the "Oga" who guarantees the next meal.

Tactical shamelessness: In the 2027 cycle, being shameless is a prerequisite for success. To the Nigerian politician, a shameful act is losing power. Everything else is just a maneuver.

"They are fighting for their political lives," says one analyst who requested anonymity. "To them, the APC and PDP are just two different labels on the same bottle of palm wine. They will drink from whichever one is closest to the table."

Katakata on the horizon

As the screening continues, the atmosphere in Abuja remains thick with tension. If the man leading the opposition is already being measured for the ruling party’s uniform, one wonders who is actually left to oppose anything.

The 2027 elections are shaping up to be less of a democratic contest and more of a "kwarikwata" infestation, where the bugs move from bed to bed, leaving the electorate itchy, tired, and wondering when the scratching will finally stop.

For now, Hon. Kingsley Chinda remains the Minority Leader in name, but his heart, and his gubernatorial hopes, seem to have found a new, "progressive" home. In the wild world of Nigerian politics, the only thing more certain than change is the desperation to stay the same.

Will the PDP leadership finally move to fumigate its house, or has the "kwarikwata" already taken over the entire building?

na Turaki camp you dey talk here. Wike has totally destroyed PDP. Seyi Makinde too has directed all his members to registered under APM. Seyi Makinde will stay in PDP and fight the battle finish with Wike in PDP. Seyi Makinde will fight it throughout the second term of Tinubu government.

Wike will understand the gravity of action he had taken in 2027 beyond, by then, there won't be leverage of scattering opposition he is leaning now, to make himself important in the eyes of president.

More so, many APC strong men which he had offended now, but choose to remain silent, will come out and cut in to size, to run back to PDP, the door would have been shut, to stay put in APC, it would be difficult. Infact, it will be more compounded if Fubara wins election.

NDC is supposed to put his eyes strongly in Rivers, they have opportunity to enter Rivers and take opportunity (confusion) the Wiked man Rivers has created.

They should try to woo, strong and popular people. Infact, Fubara is supposed to parley with them by asking his loyalist to cross to NDC, while him remain in APC.
