The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the statistics and performance breakdown for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Out of a record-breaking 2,243,816 candidates who registered and sat for the exam across 966 CBT centers nationwide, one name has captured the spotlight: Owoeye Daniella Jesudunsin.

Daniella, who hails from Ekiti State but sat her exam at a CBT center in Ogun State, completely cleared the papers to emerge as the overall highest scorer in Nigeria for 2026 with an astonishing 372 out of 400! According to official updates, she has selected the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as her first choice to study Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, unveiled the top performers during the annual policy meeting. The competition at the top was incredibly stiff this year, heavily dominated by STEM and medical aspirants.

I said I already researched it, I am a forever student of history. I have more information about that than anybody else out there.

And, no, the Ooni is wrong that Igbos migrated to the place now called South West today to meet Yorubas, rather Yorubas and Igbos used to exist as one clan in the dim period of human history, thousands or even millions of years ago. Igbos and Yorubas used to be one people speaking the same language millioms of yeas ago!

But at some point in history they parted ways to become the two ethnic groups we have today.

The issue is that some of these JAMB scores are arrangees.

It (the scores) does not reflect true brilliancy of many of those outstanding candidates.

Hence, it makes it difficult to identify the genuinely exceptional ones until get admitted into the selected schools and exams begin.

Yoruba and Igbo were once part of the Volta Niger language family. That's where the shared words come from. So, we were basically the same people at some point in time.

Read the book: The history and geography of human genes- by Luigi Cavalli Esforza.

Igbo language and Yoruba language used to be one language several thousands years ago but it splitted into two relatively recently. The book even estimated the period of the split (this was several thousands years ago).

By the way, Yorubas and Igbos were not the only people sampled in the book, rather more than 1,800 (see attachment) ethnicities around the world were sampled, including many other ethnicities in Nigeria

@izzou, l read your diary, how do you people in transportation business deal with the issue of constant kidnapping and banditry on Nigerian roads, secondly, when I was still in Nigeria, before I left decades ago, whenever I am traveling to Edo State, l go with Edegbe line, they were kind of the best then.

Again, if I am going to ABUJA, if I don't use Flight like Albarka Air, Kabo Air or Chachangi airline and several others that l can't recall their names now, l go with Taxi from iddo Park but reading all the kidnapping stuff going on in Nigeria, l am worried for those of you in Transportation business, how do you cope and navigate that aspect.
