Access bank will direct you to an account officer who never pick your call again immediately you mention loan. It doesn't matter how viable the business is, they will never reply your mails, chats or ever return your calls.
But when the funds finally came I use them do yeye taya
grin
That is the reason why they don't give you loan, running a background check shows that you are a credit risk

I was developing a small business in 2012, having spent 80% on the structure, I ran out of fund and then approached my bank who said NO WAY for 20% I needed to compete the project

This I go to start and grow ur business through bank loans

1. Have a clear idea of what very profitable biz u want to do

2. Go out ND do feasibility study on the business in relation with ur preferred location

3. Start small

4. Use friends and family funds to start

5. Keep an maintain a business book

6. Dnt just keep books use it in recording everything do...it very important!

7. Learn business management.

8. When u see ur capacity is too small from.experince inside the business, then u know u need expansion.

9. Only for expansion purposes will u seek a loan..

10. Start with small microfinance Lina's with very flexible payback plans..

11. Grow the loanable amount with them over Tim n be grounded on loan and payback etc..

12. Then leave them ND graduate to main banks, cuz these ones give lowest interest..

From.there, the sky is ur limit

I don't know. Banks hardly give loans to people, except their proxies
That's because Nigerians have a habit of not repaying loans

I have had at least a bank manager approach me by himself because of my turnover and the visible structure of my business and a few others introduced to me because of the same reason. Getting funding is never difficult for any real entrepreneur that is doing things the right way

Yes credit line is more important than loans. I used to take credit worth millions including from people that had never been to my place. They were giving me credit over the phone without having met me.

Abeg give update.

The way commercial banks frustrate credit facilities is what made these criminal Fintech apps charge exorbitant rates for loans.
From the fintech loans
We can see that some Nigerians are not credit worthy

Yes oooooooo. I can’t forget , about 28 years ago before I entered University. It was during university where I studied Finance I now knew the reason. Different accounting ratios will be calculated to ascertain your payment capacity and if you would not default on the loan. Things like bad day, normal and good day sales will be taken into consideration along with your collateral (liquidation value) in case you default.

I was just a young guy wanting to delve into a small business just to start up after Secondary school, but I was turned down because I hadn’t “established “ myself yet.

Such is life sha !

Most of you talking
Have little or no idea
When you collect the loan
Do you think it's the bank you are suffering, the innocent account officer who processes the loan facility for you gets suspended without pay

Just because a foolish human wants to scam a financial institution

We have seen a lot of y'all collect fintech loans and boldly come out to say they are disturbing you

Banks give out loans but only to who they seem credit worthy

Otedola recently wrote off more than 500b for bad loans given to individuals/companies

Does that speak well for a country

A loan that is not collaterized is a NO

Never applied,
They came to me with their expensive credit which I don't take.
After much coercion ,I got overdraft of N20m,
No collateral,nothing.
They just debit from inflows and I was not very happy when they take initial OD charge of 400k.
Them no tell me that one.

Please, what conditions warrants one to be qualified for loan from GTBANK and Fidelity?

More seriously, I don't understand how Fidelity operates even after visiting their desk, their response was like they are not informed about that.

Thanks

Can you blame them? When the average Nigerian wants loan, they are meek, humble when seeking the loan, but when it comes to making payments they become bold like lions, they know the best lawyers to avoid paying. Making a Nigerian pay loan is like dragging an ekuke to have a bath. You will hear all emotional talk of how their father died or their kid fell ill when it was time to make payment. You heard of the guy VDM spoke about that got loan through the goodwill of his judge friend, time to pay the man started trying to blackmail the lady judge that he will expose that she is the real owner of the money. Vdm got the man's bank statement, the whole money (100m)went on his wife, his girlfriend, phones, bet naija, nairabet etc. This was someone that said he got a fgn contract and needed loan to finance it. All the money gone within 2 months, all that was remaining was like 5k!
See it is not in our nature to pay loan as Nigerians, the average Joe will take sokoloan, fairmoney, opay etc, chop the money and come on this forum to claim loan app is disturbing him, and he will get plenty of support from fellow onigbese. The fastest way to make enemies with your siblings or close friends is to lend them money how much more a bank you have no emotional attachment to.
Your comment is exactly the kind of mindset that is killing entrepreneurship and business growth in Nigeria.
Imagine generalizing over 200 million people and boldly saying “it is not in our nature as Nigerians to pay loans.” Where did you get this statistics from?
What you said is nothing but bitterness mixed with stereotypes.

The truth is simple, Nigerian banks are extremely reluctant to support small and medium businesses unless you already have money, connections or heavy collateral.
Many account officers disappear immediately loan is mentioned because they already assume the average person is not worth the stress. That was the exact point I was making.

Banks love rich customers, not struggling entrepreneurs. They still give the loans to fat bank account holders who still default.

The moment my account balance grew elsewhere and my business starts succeeding without them, suddenly they began calling, checking up on me and offering products. Is that not an irony?
What many bankers in Nigeria do is to approve loans only to themselves or cronies.

Yes some people misuse loans. That happens everywhere in the world, not only in Nigeria. There are Americans, Europeans, Asians and Africans who default on loans daily.
But reducing an entire country to onigbese behavior is dishonest and intellectually lazy.

The funny thing is that these same banks themselves write off billions in insider loans owed by politically connected people but become ruthlessly aggressive when chasing ordinary Nigerians over small business loans. So spare us the moral lecture.

Today many Nigerian businesses have developed alternative financing ecosystems outside the traditional banking sector.
Banks are supposed to be central to capital allocation and business expansion. However, when financial institutions become structurally detached from productive sectors of the economy, businesses naturally adapt by building parallel survival mechanisms outside the formal credit system.

Nigerian banks will eventually face institutional decline within the business lifecycle framework. Like firms in the maturity-to decline phase, institutions that fail to innovate, efficiently allocate capital or maintain relevance to emerging economic actors will die off naturally.
I can tell you for free that the banking sector has become irrelevant in this economy where businesses increasingly have learned to survive and scale without them
Re: Has A Bank Ever Rejected Your Small Business Loan Application? by lawani(m): 10:21am On May 12
Why credit is not circulating is because so many properties have no title deeds and can therefore not be used to collateralize loans. My grandfather built three houses and my father built one. Two of my grandfather's house are decrepit now and in need of repairs while the third one was taken over by a bank. The ones in need of repair are capital that is not in circulation. Nobody is using them for anything. Not even rentals meanwhile they could have been used to collateralize huge loans. The same is true across Nigeria. Banks can not mobilize people with loans because the assets that can cover those loans are not liquid. In the high income world, most if not all real estate are mobilized for loans

Nigeriana don't like to hear the truth, that is one of our main problems!

Out of our population of 200 million people I can assure you that only about 20% or less will take a loan from a friend or bank and willingly pay it back when it becomes due.

Nigeria is a country of onigbese people, joy can deny it all you want it does not change the facts.

Someone will come to you looking all sober to ask for a loan with a promise to pay back on a certain date.

When the time for payment comes he starts avoiding you or he pretends to have forgotten, meanwhile he has the money to pay back but he won't pay back cos he thinks your money is his entitlement.

You will practically beg to get your money back, that is if you are ever able to recover it.

You people are terrible!!!

Truth of the matter is that those apps are the only ones that will give you loan, no bank will, in that case wount it be fair to talk of them?
Bros, one day like that I no get liquid cash, I needed small owo, I enter gt bank app, now way, I enter fcmb for where, I called Zenith bank, that one my account officer told me hoha say their bank no de give anybody soft loan say them no get time to chase people up and down, lol. Now that is me weh de run my accounts well, e pain me wella.
Back in the day ie the early 2000s, drove out with my guy a fresh lawyer, we stopped by his cousins house somewhere in ikoyi or VI, apparently she had a big discount supermarket, she wanted to do abroad style and gave store credit cards to so called elite customers. Oga those so called big Nigerians came there and wrecked the shop with igbese. Lol. See list of who is who in Lagos, from that pastor that speaks like an Americano to top celebrities and politicians. So she offered him 10% of any money he recovered.
Early 2000s also eco bank introduced the first credit card in naija, all you do is bring your bank statement from any bank, they will then evaluate you and decline or offer you credit. So they gave me card of 120k or $1000. Bros after 6months or so eco bank almost wrecked. So called big men took the money and never paid. Me that had integrity was servicing my card, at a time my money was paid in full eco bank declined further credit. They said Nigerians wanted to wound them, lol
Do you know must banks in the world give loans the most in the form of credit cards? Why are Nigerian banks not doing so, instead it is debit card they give, the reason is that nigerians wount pay!!.
The only people trying now with loans is opay, but of course the interest na die. Funny thing is that people complain of loan app and the cost, but forget it is like that all over the world, the more risk a loan environment is the higher the interest rates. Someone that came for his father burial told be he borrowed £4k and that he was paying 150 monthly as interest on the loan! Ie 7.8m to be seeing 277k just as monthly interest? Haba.

And in most of those countries
The SMEs didnt treat the loans as free national cake from our fadaland
Right now im thinking of the rice farmers , when burahi closed tje borders , so they could improve capacity and quality only for them to turn round hoard the rice and hike the price , with nearly minimal improvement in quality

Sheuns:
How economy go grow when institutions don’t have faith or see the visions of SMEs?

They’ll say it’s safety. But they forget that in most big economies of the world, institutions and government give SMEs room and support to thrive.
