I inherited seven stems of Cocoa with a plot of land in the village that was only good for Agriculture from my dad about 5 years ago when he transion to the other side. I was struggling with a Para military job that the pay couldn't take me home.

I decided to look homeward. Applied for study leave, went back home to my father's land, cleared the only plot he had and extended the cocoa farm of seven stems to about 300 stems as at today.

I initially did 900 nursery for transplant but only about 300 survived.

Today my farm pays me more than what I spent 5years to study in school.

My wife and I still farm on the remaining part of the land for consumption. I don't buy yams, corn or cocumbers. I simply get them from my small farm. Truly, Agriculture has helped me to mitigate the shocks of the Nigeria Economy.

I can proudly call myself a farmer. It sounds funny when I say I'm a farmer when ever I'm asked what I do for a living. People still under rate farmers to this day. Farming cash crops Is the best. My children will inherit my farm just the way I inherited from my father.
When I got married, I told my father inlaw I was a farmer, he wondered how ill take care of his daughter,. But today major family decisions can't be taken without consulting me. Thanks to President BAT the high rate of foreign exchange has been one of the reason cocoa prizes are high

Great! That's why we always say people should look inward. You can never go hungry if you do agriculture the right way. Unfortunately, people no longer want to go into agriculture.

School isn't scam. Its just that we r realizing albeit too late that school isn't for everybody.

Instead of ranting productive time away on nairaland, you took your destiny in your own hands. Imagine if anonimi (and iwaeda) had invested the amount of time he spends ranting daily on nairaland since 2015(11 years wasted) on something this productive, he would be one of the richest in his community.

As a commodities business person myself, indeed export of commodities fetches a lot of Nigeria farmers go FX.

Cocoa money is good money. But the business requires experience, patience and resilience.

I have more than a plot in my compound I'm not using, I was planning to build rental property there, but with the high cost of building & low ROI on rental properties, I think it will be more better I use it for farming.

no mind the guy. Even with the existing rate before Tinubu, cash crop farmers still did well. Tinubu's policies didn't do any magic but worsened the situation.
