NAIROBI, Kenya- Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit have arrested a suspected drug trafficker during an intelligence-led operation in Nairobi.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Nigerian national Christian Ikechukwu Uzochukwu, was arrested at his residence in the Kabarnet area along Ngong Road.

Authorities say the suspect had been under investigation over alleged links to a narcotics trafficking network operating within the city.

Detectives recover cannabis sachets during house raid

According to investigators, detectives conducted a thorough search of the suspect’s residence following intelligence reports.

The operation led to the recovery of 33 sachets of cannabis sativa reportedly packed and ready for distribution.

Police also recovered two passports bearing the suspect’s name alongside other items believed to be relevant to the investigations.

The seized drugs have since been detained as exhibits.

Police say suspect was in Kenya illegally

Preliminary investigations by detectives further revealed that the suspect was allegedly staying in the country illegally.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional suspects connected to the alleged trafficking network are being pursued.

The suspect was escorted to Muthaiga Police Station, where he is being processed pending arraignment in court.

Security agencies intensify anti-drug operations

The arrest comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations targeting trafficking networks across Kenya.

Security agencies have increasingly relied on intelligence-led investigations to dismantle organised drug distribution rings operating in urban centres.

Officials say the operations are aimed at disrupting narcotics supply chains and reducing the circulation of illegal drugs within communities.
