Emergency fund is a reasonable thing to have. However, even a millionaire is a step away from going broke if a terminal illness shows up.

90% of Nigerians don't have emergency fund. They don't even know where the money for the next kids school fees or feeding will come from, but somehow, we are still surviving.

Do we in Nigeria have control of price and inflation ? so how do one calculate emergency fund based on month?

Today NEPA bill is 40k next month 120k
next children in school will come with list of items to bring to school
price of water/ cooking gas has gone up two times in a week due to price of oil in the international market

Nigeria is not stable for money calculation and budgeting as a citizen

27million naira me but right now I feel broke can’t even touch it

For most Nigerians, saving money is essential because the money will save you during rainy days. Unfortunately, almost everyday is a rainy day in Nigeria. This is why a good number of Nigerians only fight to survive (not to be submerged in the economic crisis). Just like that saying: Surviving is winning, Franklin, every other thing is ....

My emergency fund as at last year July is 1.2 million since then no matter the situation salary will take care of it. My brother in law works for one of the top 3 banks in Nigeria and he put it into investment which he told me I can terminate at anytime I still have interest running on it. So it doesn't need to be 400k it can be 100k you just put aside but still hustling.

During the saving of the 1.2 I did not club, did do small chops like shawarma ice cream cos I have a sweet tooth,but after getting the money I can do that now. Like I said you can start small 50-100k and build it.good luck
