Blind people eat salmon but it doesn't prevent them from getting blind yet it's one of the best sources for eye strength.

Our problem is that our professors are lazy, they don't do any research.
Most of what we eat , drink and use are used because we met them so.
We have rarely done serious empirical test on them.
We need to research a lot, because some of our local stuff are very helpful, some could be toxic if applications are not really own.
BUT, IF I BE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, I GO BAN AKPU, FUFU OR SANTANA, THE SMELL IS EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE.
FROM THE FERMENTING TO THE SIEVING TO THE SELLING AND CONSUMPTION , NA VERY UNBEARABLE ODOUR.
JUST ENTER FINE DUPLEX WITH STATE OF THE ART FURNISHING, ONCE THEM DEY EAT AM OR JUST FISHED EATING IT, OMO YOU GO HATE THE MANSION AND PREFER TO ENTER MUD HOUSE.
Hahaha na some people pounded yam be that o

The locust bean is our ancient seasoning cube like Knorr or Maggi we have these day. Locust bean clears eye sight.
fineboynl:
While growing up in my state some people do use it, but a very little of it in their soup. Locust beans.

Just minimum and you won't notice or smell it that much.

But my traveling to the south east what I saw there in some places will make you vomits. Especially some local restaurants. They put too much locust beans in their soups and the whole environment will be smelling. The people you will meet around there sees it as normal but if you are a stranger you can't stand it. And if you are a very irritating person you will likely throw up.

I still think some people are adding it too mucho

Locust beans and iru don't add any nutritional value to food. Just like the seasoning cubes, no tangible nutritional benefits to the body. It's all for the purpose adding flavours and spices, anything else is zero. This is the reason why people are advised to use these condiments in moderation.
Beats me how people just pull out their phone and type what they know not. Beats me every time.

That you choose to idle away on social media and do not read or catch up on innovations in that field is not anybody's fault.

Original locust beans do not have smell but flavourful aroma.

The problem with the smelly one you see or eat is because of where they are produced and same reason why fufu produced in Igboland smell. Please go read up.

It is ogiri that smells, original Iru does not smell.

Well cleaned, washed and fermented locust beans iru has a flavourful aroma. The original Iru are only available and sold in South west.
I did not in sult them, I only stated the obvious and you know it.
Best research work are sponsored by private entities, some for economic reasons, while others are for humanity.
Government does not do research.
That apart, I only know of research works on crop improvement mostly by IITA Ibadan and Umudioka. I haven't seen or heard of any helpful research work and findings on our chronic issues like sickle cell, malaria, mosquito, food and nutrition. Where are the labs?

Then, on iru, ogiri, dawadawa and FUFU/AKPU, you are just telling childish lies painted in ethnic bashing.
Them dey smell everywhere you find them.
Let's take FUFU for example, you said it does not smell from Yoruba axis. Before it is cooked in Yoruba pattern, how does in look, feel or smell; I guess Na OUD PERFUME.

You are repeating same ignorance mixed with obscene arrogance and it shows that you are unteachable.
I will no longer waste time in educating you.

Keep insulting people who are far better than you and ahead of you in life and it shows why you can never attain their level.

Nah natural maggi be that

My grandma does not use Maggi & salt to cook. Instead, it’s Locust beans & plenty Onions..

Damnnnn… There are some good healthy foods that are not even a penny at all but people don’t know..

Both Maggi & salt are dangerously dangerous to the health..
And I bet she lived long.

While I don't particularly know the nutrient it contains, I know it's better for our health than curry, maggi and thyme.

Natural food items like this is one of the reasons our ancestors lived long.

My father died at 104 last year and I have started taking care of my health too, beginning from what I eat.

We no de use maggi or too much salt for our house so Iru to the rescue. Iru is natural maggi and very good for you. Local stew with Iru be like heaven on earth. You can wash it to reduce the smell. Regular Iru not Pete. Pete is higher quality and some are very clean.

Since we have cut maggi and salt my blood pressure is very stable and ok. So nobody fit tell me anything about Iru.

I despise that shit. The only way you could get away with it is if you grind it to oblivion and put it, that way I wouldn't be able to tell.

If you cannot stand it, then don't eat it nah. Or close your nose whenever you see people using it to cook. That's the natural seasoning of Igbo people and it sweetens soups naturally.

Does locust beans emits repugnant smell ? YES

Can CONSISTENT consumption of locust beans leads to body odour ? YES

If you are addictive to eating locust beans, even flies that so much loves smelly things does not hesitate scampering to safety as they can not withstand the odoriferousness of locust beans when you farts. grin

I have a colleague that usually brings with him to the office, soup infested with locust beans, after microwaving, the stinking smell reduces the oxygen level of the office to 10% and has the tendency to reducing one life span.

Very Very smelly smelly thing. angry angry

Locust beans is a confirmed body Odour Generator, and should be banned by WHO period angry
