INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION

PRESS STATEMENT

SUBMISSION OF POLITICAL PARTIES' MEMBERSHIP REGISTERS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform Nigerians and stakeholders in the electoral process that all 22 registered political parties have successfully submitted their membership registers to the Commission in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026. The submission followed the extension granted by the Commission after political parties raised concerns during a meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, regarding the timeline provided in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. The Commission is pleased to note that all registered parties submitted their registers as of 8th May 2026, two days before the extended deadline.

Following a meeting with political parties, the Commission, in a press statement issued on the 27th of March 2026, adjusted the deadline for the submission of party registers from 21st April 2026 to 10th May 2026 to align with the provisions of Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the actual dates fixed by political parties for their primaries. Political parties were accordingly allowed to conduct their primaries within the approved period from 23rd April 2026 to 30th May 2026, while the register of party members was required to be submitted to the Commission not later than 21 days before the conduct of their respective primaries.

INEC wishes to state that all registered political parties complied with the requirement within the extended timeframe and will subject the submitted registers to the necessary verification processes in line with the law. The Commission remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.

Re: INEC: All 22 Parties Successfully Submitted Membership Registers by WhizdomXX(m):
I hope the political parties cleaned their registers of those who deregistered. For those in APC, today is house of representative primaries, go and select the best candidate to represent your constituency.
Dear Nigerians, Remember to participate in the process of choosing the best candidate at the primaries. If you know anyone around you born in 2008 or earlier, tell them Go and register for their PVC at cvr.inecnigeria.org Then they go for physical capturing at the INEC office closest to them which they can see from the portal. Inec and political parties should be sensitizing people on this. If your voters card is old and fading, you can visit the INEC office to ensure it's still valid. After registration and collecting your voters card, make sure you go out to vote on election day and remain there till it's counted and uploaded on the IREV, which you can verify by yourself before leaving your polling station. In 2023, voter registration was at an all-time high of 93 million but yet voter turnout on election day was at an all-time low of 24 million, that is about 10% of the Country's population deciding it's future. In U.S.A, over 156 million turned out to vote in its 2020 election, that is about 50% (half) of its population. India in 2019, over 613 million came out to vote out of its 1.3 billion population. With even higher turnout in 2024. Nigeria will be Great Again.

No need now, except you are looking for double registration else party membership does not determine voting pattern. I can be PDP for instance and vote APC

Yes, the new electoral law says you can’t join another political party once registered voters list has been submitted that election cycle

The North remembers the betrayal...even after jailing Nnamdi Kanu to score political leverage with the Notth.

What you posted here makes absolutely no sense. Not a iota. There is no imaginary alliance between the so called "North" and you people. None at all. And what betrayal are you talking about? That Tinubu won't allow them to have their way as usual in his administration? Make it make sense. Does Nigeria belong to the "North'? What is the 'north'? Fulanis? Guy, you're dealing with a man who fears nothing and he will deal with you and whoever wants to bring the country down. Kanu will rot in jail and Tinubu will complete his eight years. Thank God even you know that your lord and personal political savior cannot win because you didn't even mention NDC in your comment. You're now here hoping out of spite that Fulanis will take over again. Hopeless losers everywhere!!

Honestly, I don’t know how this information is relevant to INEC or the election. Only leaders and executive of the party should suffice. None the less, it doesnt stop their wayo

Alliance between the North and SEnwas in existence even when they beat your ancestors in ILORIN. It was an equal opportunity partnership. Awolowo, did the damage, Tinubu repeated it and the SE will finish it.

Cry Blood grin

Is there any provision in the constitution that allows one to contest election in a party he's not a registered member or where INEC is mandated to release the submitted register for update when one defects later on? So many people that always wait to fed every information in NL therefore abandoning rational thinking angry
