The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have submitted their membership registers in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026. In a statement on Friday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said the submissions were completed two days before the extended deadline of May 10, 2026. Haruna explained that the deadline extension followed requests from political parties during a March 24 meeting regarding the timeline in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. Political parties were allowed to conduct their primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026, and were required to submit their membership registers at least 21 days before their respective primaries, in line with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act. “INEC is satisfied that all registered parties complied with the requirement within the approved timeframe,” Haruna stated. He added that the submitted registers will now undergo verification processes as mandated by law. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 polls. |

Lithiumite:That one na INEC regulation, there is no constitutional law that say one cannot decamp of the party is in dissaray after politicians may have thrown the party into division by buying delegates to vote for them. INEC regulation is not supreme to the constitution and the right to associate. Your divide-and- scatter APC gimmicks will not work. |

Dalohad:No one is saying you can't decamp to another party but you cant vote and be voted for in that party since your name isn't in the submitted register of the party till 2031 election cycle. |
