Adekunle Gold Dragged Online As Sowore Reacts To Alleged Arrest Of Critic by Dobnews(op): 6:40am On May 18
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold is currently facing heavy backlash online after reports claimed that a young man was allegedly arrested and sent to prison over social media posts connected to the singer and his family.

What started as online banter quickly turned into a major social media controversy, with angry users flooding comment sections and threatening to stop supporting the singer’s music.

Some users went as far as deleting Adekunle Gold’s songs from their phones, while others accused celebrities of using influence and connections to silence ordinary Nigerians online.

One angry user wrote:

“I don delete all his music in my system. Oppressor.”

Another commented:

“You think say we go stream your album because you jail person? You lie.”

The reactions continued to spread across X and other social media platforms, turning the singer’s comment section into a battlefield of criticism, anger, and debate.

Sowore Reacts

The controversy became even bigger after activist Omoyele Sowore reacted publicly to the issue.

Sowore shared an old 2012 post allegedly made by Adekunle Gold during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Back then, Adekunle Gold had reportedly made a controversial joke online criticizing the government.

Using that moment as an example, Sowore questioned why someone who once benefited from freedom of expression would allegedly support using police or cybercrime laws against ordinary citizens over online comments and trolling.

According to Sowore, free speech should apply to everyone whether rich, famous, powerful, or poor.

He also criticized the use of law enforcement in matters involving social media arguments and online banter, warning that such actions could create fear among young Nigerians using social media platforms.

Nigerians Divided

As the issue continues trending online, Nigerians appear divided.

While many people believe celebrities should ignore online trolling instead of involving authorities, others argue that cyberbullying, defamation, and attacks on family members should not be normalized simply because they happen online.

Some supporters of Adekunle Gold also argued that public figures are human beings too and deserve protection from harassment and dangerous accusations.

However, critics insist that arresting people over internet speech sends the wrong message in a country where freedom of expression remains a sensitive issue.

For now, the controversy continues to grow online, with many Nigerians waiting to see whether Adekunle Gold or his management team will publicly address the situation.

One thing is certain what began as social media drama has now turned into a national conversation about celebrity power, online speech, and freedom of expression in Nigeria.

I don't know how people can be this stupid, supporting the useless boy who falsely announced the death of someone's child. If this happened to the idiots dragging Adekunle Gold, would they be doing this?

Also, I think Sowore is becoming a nuisance, always jumping on every news item to trend. Such foolishness!

I understand your POV, but 2 full years in prison, without even an option of fine? Haba!

Nigerian judges are pathetic! How can you send someone that literally committed no crime to jail without option of fine?

Death is a necessary end, and if a fool wishes you to die, just tell him, it's turn by turn. Adekunle overacted, and he is just using his status to oppress the troll.
