Those so called foreign aid from the US to African countries can come with conditions, expectations or indirect trade-offs. Foreign aids and even loans have been known to come with conditions like accepting LGBTq like recently in Ghana.


Aid can strengthen US influence over foreign policy, voting patterns in international organizations or security cooperation.



Some aid programs encourage and even dictate market reforms, privatization, or procurement from American companies.


Nothing is free even in free town. Because you aren't seeing it doesn't mean it is not there!

What's the relevance of Nigeria's economy here? And by the way, China is not holding $3.4 trillion. The $3 trillion dollars includes other holdings like Euro, Yen etc. China held $1.3 Trillion exclusively in 2013, now it's reduced to about half of that, never to be held in trillions again.

Reducing USD holding is not a race, it's a strategic and calculated statecraft.
