Ogbomoso Teachers Take To Streets To Protest Abduction Of Schoolchildren, Colleagues By Gunmen In Oyo State

Teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State have taken to the streets in a wave of protest over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of the state, escalating public pressure on authorities to respond decisively to worsening insecurity in schools.

The protesting teachers expressed anger, fear and frustration over repeated attacks on educational institutions, insisting that classrooms have become unsafe for both pupils and staff.

Many of them carried placards and chanted solidarity songs while demanding urgent government intervention and the immediate release of the abducted teachers and pupils.

In a video seen by SaharaReporters, the protesters could be heard calling for immediate action from security agencies and government authorities. One of the placards carried during the demonstration read, “Government take action,” capturing the mood of urgency and distress among the educators.

The protest comes in the wake of widespread outrage following a recent attack on schools in Oyo State, where armed men invaded educational facilities in the Oriire Local Government Area, abducting teachers and pupils.

The incident has continued to spark concern across the state and beyond, particularly among education stakeholders.

Oriire has remained at the centre of attention following the assault. The kidnappers later released disturbing videos from captivity showing two victims pleading for rescue.

In one of the videos, a visibly distressed nursing mother who identified herself as a staff member of First Baptist Church in Ogbomoso appealed to authorities and the church for urgent intervention.

She said, “We are here, we need help from the government and the state government, both the church, First Baptist Church in Yawota and the community. We need your help so that these people will release us,” she said tearfully.

Another victim, the Principal of Community High School, Esiele, Mrs. Racheal Alamu, also appeared in a separate video, calling on authorities and Nigerians to act swiftly before the situation deteriorates further. Her emotional appeal added to growing fears over the safety of abductees.

The attackers were said to have stormed LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele community on Friday, killing a teacher and abducting several pupils, students, and staff members in the process.

The brutality of the incident has intensified calls for stronger protection of schools, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.

In response, the Oyo State Government announced that security agencies had sealed off possible escape routes around the National Park axis to prevent the abductors from fleeing into neighbouring states. Authorities say coordinated rescue operations are ongoing.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, earlier disclosed that personnel of the Nigerian Army, police officers, the Amotekun Corps, and local hunters had been mobilised in a joint effort to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

Re: Ogbomoso Teachers Protest The Kidnapping Of Schoolchildren, Colleagues In Oyo by Brendaniel:
When I say the Yoruba people made me give up on the unity of Nigeria, some think I am just being biased, but that's the truth.

So here it is:

When terrorism and kidnapping of school children was only restricted to the north, they were everywhere asking for the head of Jonathan, did everything to get him out.

Today the same terrorism and kidnapping is not only in the north but right inside their own domain taking even up to their kings and children and there is calmness, silence, in fact a number of them are even asking for third term for Tinubu.

So I ask what was Jonathan's offense to them?

Secondly, if you want know the level of hypocrisy going on, let's sincerely ask ourselves, the people among them who tell a certain people : go back to your region or attack them during election for mere unverified statement, why are they not shouting that the people committing all these offenses in their land and killing up to their kings to go back their region?

Is there something more to this going on?

Just for second imagine if it were the people who are from that region they tell to go back were the people committing all these crimes in their region and even killing their kings.

Is this how calm they will be?

Why are they protesting ? Because it now affects them . But if we call for national protest, they will use their tribalism to kill it.

What national protest have you called for that the people of Ogbomosho used tribalism to kill? Do you think things through before typing?

The problem with people of your kind is you view life with tribal lenses all the time.

I would be on the lookout for what you say should such happen in your region (I pray not)

These guys are gradually entering and encroaching Yoruba land.

If President Tinubu cannot achieve a law that restricts herdmens open grazing to the north, then I personally believe it's time we seperate this country into 2 or 3 parts.

The North should embrace their terrorism to themselves. Enough is enough.

Their ultimate plan is to enter Lagos. They are moving in phases.
