If you are a reputable mechanic and customer to the dealer, he must have known your workshop and get the engine delivered to you at your garage. It's trust based on years of patronage.

Just go to Jiji to compare prices. Call the sellers on phone to negotiate and if you are okay with it go to their shop to verify and take your mechanic along.

Is it true that sometimes those who sell engines sell already dead engines as tokunbo engines and the buyers wouldn't know.

How can a buyer protect himself from falling into such a trap

Go and sleeve it. It will still work well for 3 years or more depending on oil change.

True, but all depends on who you’re getting it from. It really takes one who know the nitty gritty part of Ladipo to properly get good part and the lady is pretty good at that.

You can come for inspection… is still inside the car run and drive, but the owner want to drop the engine

Never go to buy an engine (especially at Ladipo) without having your mechanic by your side. If you go alone, they will give you a bad engine (intentionally). When you ask for guarantee, they will give you, maybe a week. They know you would come back.

And by the time you go back there, they will now tell you to add money before they give you another one. By then, you're paying mechanic that would fix it double labour cost, you're spending on transportation etc.

Why they do that, I don't know .

Meanwhile, if you go with your mechanic, something of 1m, they will sell it at 1.2m and the seller and the mechanic will share the balance but they will give you good engine. If you like, trust your mechanic, he must get back there to collect his share. That is how they operate in that market.

Why did you say so, because he suggested jiji... I have ordered car parts for my Ford on jiji before. The thing is that majority of those at Ladipo, Owode etc are the people placing advert on jiji, this is based on personal experience.

very expensive, far less comfortable than Honda equivalent

Peogeot 206, 406, Honda civic, all are cheaper and have better fuel economy than corolla and far more comfortable

If the oil is too light or too thin, it will consume more fuel. Check d grade level beside d oil gallon. Then too thick oil is not good

I wish you had a close brother or cousin who sells engine or motor parts.
He will get you what you need

U can hardly see an untampered Corolla engine in the market except u are buying a brand new engine. Most of the engines are repaired engines. They will always encourage you to trade yours in. Your engine will be repaired and sold to another person as tokunbo....and the cycle continues.
