Dey play. Students that ordinarily don't have any hope now have hope. To burst your bubble, Peter obi when he was governor in anambra, rather than cushion education in tertiary institutions inflated school fees by 600%. He had no sympathy for the parents who are struggling to send those children to school. Tinubu is a much better human than obi.
you don't have a point, you are just agueing blindly

ASUU strike durations by administration:

🔴 Obasanjo (1999–2007) — 18 months
🔴 Yar’Adua (2007–2010) — 4 months
🔴 Jonathan (2010–2015) — 13 months
🔵 Buhari (2015–2023) — 21 months
🔵 Tinubu (2023–present) — 9 days

Buhari recorded 21 months of strikes during his eight-year tenure — the highest total since the return to democracy in 1999.

So far, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has recorded only 9 days of nationwide strike action as of May 2026.

TINUBU IS THE MOST STUDENT-FRIENDLY PRESIDENT EVER.
Add student loan to it

Useless post like this will begin to fly around now, cos election is approaching just to cover up their mess but hey! It will never work.

What was the value of the naira while these strikes were taking place back then and now? Was it only salary the striking lecturers were asking for? I know of 3 vibrant lecturers in Unilorin who had left Nigeria for Canada this year alone. That's my alma mater.
How many lecturers are able to buy a car from their salary ? I knew of a lecturer who bought 2 cars without kickbacks or printing handouts. Can it happen now, with the so called salary? What's the condition of hostels and lecture theatres in the federal universities nationwide ?

A lot of myopic people often think that people prefer private universities because of strike lol. In private universities accommodation, infrastructure, facilities are so good. Its just like comparing public secondary schools with private schools. It's sad to note that our private universities made the best 1000 worldwide while only one public university did. UI used to be on the list of the best 100 in the world. What had happened ? It may not be Tinubu's fault but what had he done to improve on the ratings ?

Before anyone can rate this man, he should place lecturers on the salary equivalent of what they were earning during his predecessors' regime, but I doubt he will. They're earning far less now
What exactly is your point as regards the post.....the problem with you guys is your abject lack of objectivity.....its a will be a very terrible mistake to allow you neo facist ideologues take over the reins of this country.....its a dream that will never come to pass.

Calling what I said “rubbish” is overreaction...

And overly simplistic.

First of all “lecturers are not striking because they are not hungry” is not meant to be a literal hunger claim.

It’s shorthand for economic pressure and welfare dissatisfaction not whether they have food on the table that morning.

Strikes in universities are rarely about immediate starvation but about relative deprivation, salary erosion, unpaid entitlements, funding of institutions, and working conditions.

Yes lecturers are formally employed. Yes, they receive salaries. But that doesn’t automatically mean their compensation is competitive or sustainable especially in an environment where salaries lose value due to inflation, allowances and agreements are delayed or not implemented or infrastructure/work conditions deteriorate.

Access to grants or occasional travel is not a substitute for systemic welfare.

That’s like saying a hospital nurse is “fine” because they once attended a foreign conference.

Secondly, your framing misses how strikes actually work. People don’t “down tools” only when they are desperate. They strike when
negotiation breaks down, leverage is available and collective action is the only remaining pressure tool.

ASUU strikes historically have been about agreements not implemented over years not sudden hunger.

If you want to criticize meaningfully then critique the actual issues which are inflation, erosion of salaries and institutional decay.

Don't simplify my comment into hungry or not hungry
!
grin Now you are grasping at straws. There was no ambiguity whatsoever about what you said.
"Lecturers are hungry and that's why they're not protesting. "
Wasn't hunger one of the factors that pushed them to strikes in the past? If they're not striking now like they did regularly in the past, a more discerning mind would put that beyond hunger.
Good day to you.

Unfortunately, the students are dropping out of school themselves because their parents can no longer afford to keep them in school.

It has become so bad that jamb is lowering standards for admissions to attract people
Stop spreading fake information. no student dropping out because of tuition fees. Nelfund has already taken care of it.
Stipends of 20k for upkeeps for the student every month. I have two nieces that enjoying this nelfund. Any student that says he or she drops out becos of school fees is a lie

Is it the NELFUND students are using to feed?
You’re still far from reality, and I’ll put you through. Only few percentile of students use those loans for fees, the rest of them try to survive through school taking those loans. I’ve had many of those cases, that’s how I know

He did not improve the condition that made ASUU to reduce number of time they engaged in strike.
Government destroyed unionism. Divide them against themselves and thereby making them very weak.
Together with poverty level in the country, they now accepted their fate anyhow they see it.
That is not improvement.
It is intimidation and flogging into unwilling submission.

I said the truth, this whole solving ASUU strike is only a facade; wait till he leaves the office and the mess will be uncovered, another dragging for agreements not met for the future students.

Also, the glorious NELFUND is only a suffering and smiling scheme. Students are really suffering.
Economy is so bad, and you still have to pay multiple dues, buy textbooks and other miscellaneous expenses. Don’t forget School fee and rent increments. Then, the cost of living and surviving? A lot of students survive on drinking garri everyday, I’m sure you are very much aware!
I have had students use this loans just for survival! Tinubu isn’t doing sh*** for Nigerian students 💯

Don't mind them. They chose to be deliberately blinded by hate and bitterness. Anyone with open mind will see all the reforms going on. For the first time each state are allowed to own their power generation, transmission and distribution, black market no longer controls dollar price. Now we have tax reform, we have states paying back back log of debt, foreign investors are growing more confident that they will be able to repatriate their profits with fx stability, subsidised dialysis for vulnerable, nelfund for less privileged, road networks, cng alternative fuel source for automobile, decentralization of cbn operation, decentralization of police academy, decentralization of army depot and many more.
We also see how your region have been enjoying security. How oyo state teachers and students are in safe hands of Islamic terrorists

About absence of petrol ques u mention, let me tell u the reality, before now in my area when there's no light, everybody puts on generator, but now because petrol money no dey, people just stay in darkness except for the few who still have some change to spare,or one or two who have struggled to install solar system.....you may be close to those in power,so you see and hear their proposals and achievements on paper, but for we wey near bottom, nothing dey xup even with all the extra hustle.we virtually broke body to get things going.

There's no nuance anywhere, mister. You are criticizing blindly like the average human being. You got caught out and started turning and twisting.
I don't expect you to own up to your obvious bias, at the same time don't expect everyone to foolishly swallow it hook line and sinker.

Do you now admit that the reason lecturers' strikes are no longer prevalent is beyond hunger and poor lecturers welfare?
Our lecturers put themselves above others. If they feel a threat to their livelihood, they'll fight, unless you are too young to know that
