Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On YouTube

“First of all YouTube is a low-budget business model. I make films for N300 million to N500 million and up to N600 million. And unfortunately, I can’t put such films on YouTube.

“YouTube is not going to generate the revenue to cover this amount invested. So, the YouTube business model for a filmmaker is well suited to a low-budget production.

“So, it only means that as more filmmakers migrate to the YouTube platform, there’s going to be more low-budget films in production and less of the bigger budget films. - Moses Inwang

Maurice Sam,babarex, chike dike, mike ezurounye, sarian Martin etc are the ones trending on YouTube now. Most of the movies are really boring and have no didactic value to me. I even prefer watching Hausa movies. Nigerian movies are more of cultural drama. No life message, intellectual and cognitive narratives. Just women with big butts and touts who look like mc oluomo

Honestly Nigeria films have really depreciated, how about they make movies like in the 90s, I don't even watch those YouTube nonsense, a complete waste of time.

I am not aware of a Nigeria movie with #600m production cost.As a videographer,I am very impressed by the quality of some Nollywood movies on YouTube. There is currently a healthy competition among producers on YouTube.Gone are the days u post nonsense storylines and crappy video quality on YouTube without being called out by movie lovers and netizens.

Nollywood's 90s movies weren't much to write home about though.

Big budget movies make big bucks. Those who know the formula will not stop. This write-up was more of commonsense than educative. I knew the information way before opening the thread.

Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by Armaggedon: 11:47am On May 21
You know nothing about movie business, then. This is why some of you don't succeed.
Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by ColdHunter(f): 12:00pm On May 21
Story.

What kind of Nigerian movie are you making with 500m?

Same movies that can be shot entirely using different rooms in a house for club, office, prison cell etc
Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by Winner90: 12:01pm On May 21
YouTube is the dominant channel for nollywood producers now, whether you like it or not. It'll even get better with developments like MTN fiberx. People like Ruth Kadiri are already making billions from it. Creating a rewarding distribution channel is harder than making a good movie. The distribution channel and the profit it offers determine how much you invest. This is what you don't know
Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by Theama(m): 12:33pm On May 21
I mean why not just use YouTube as a platform for branding or something.

Low-budget production shouldn't equal rubbish or low quality storylines.

I think you can use YouTube to gain, grow audience, get some revenue to push your other projects and then when you actually want to make a high budget film for Cinema or Netflix, it'll be easier to spread awareness or get eyes on screen since you already have an audience who love your movies. Especially if you release the high quality, high budget once in a while(e.g annually.)

To me it'll be easier especially if you aren't a well known or big movie producer. I think it's those ones that can say they'll only release high-budget movies and not low budget YouTube ones. But still even the Naija big movie producers dey get some movies on YouTube even if na their low-budget ones dem for put there.

I don't know much about film making business but this is what came to my mind.

Una fit correct me sha...

You don't want your movies to be on YouTube, yet all the low-budget ghosts in your movies will be looking left, right and left again before crossing a road🙄🙄. Focus more on quality movie production and good stories so that anywhere you put the movies, people will come for them.
Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by MrBright212: 4:15pm On May 21
What 600m movie is this one talking about?? For Asaba movie or what huh Oga go and sleep jare
Re: Not All Nollywood Movies Can Be On Youtube by LILCHIJICARTEL: 8:59pm On May 21
True talk, not all movies should go on YouTube.

Some people don't even know how much was spent in making movies like anikulapo,

Mad budget and you think it's like your normal lekki movies with two houses and 1 road and all the scenes are inside the houses
