Changan Cars Vs 2014 Honda Accord — I Need Your Honest Reviews! by ponlear(op): 7:24am On May 21
Hello house,

Please I need the car gurus, and actual owners on this forum to advise me before I make a major financial move.

With the way the economy is going, buying a 2018+ Tokunbo car right now is looking like a luxury apartment investment. Because of this, I've been doing some serious calculations. My budget is pulling me toward two completely different directions, and I want to see what makes the most sense for a daily Lagos commute.

On one hand, I’m looking at a clean Tokunbo 2014 Honda Accord. We all know the Accord is a sweet ride— comfortable, nice interior, excellent handling, and that 2.4L i-VTEC engine is quite reliable.

On the other hand, my eyes have been firmly fixed on the Changan brand—brand new or very clean used one from China. Visually, these Changan cars are breathtaking. The interior looks like a full stack tech hub with the screens, 360-degree cameras, and panoramic roof. Plus, Mikano backing them with a warranty sounds like peace of mind when getting a brand new one.

Although, I heard mikano won't offer support to the imported ones. How has the experience been for those that own these Changan cars?

But as a proper Nigerian, my mind is still playing ten-ten about switching to a Chinese brand over a proven Japanese machine. Before I drop my hard-earned money, I need the house to help me weigh these options

Parts & Maintenance: If an alternator or sensor goes bad on the Accord, I can get it in Ladipo or any spare parts market in 10 minutes. What is the story for Changan parts? Can a regular mechanic handle them, or am I strictly tied to Mikano and what happens when I opt to import directly from China.

Should I go for the tech and newness of the Changan, or should I just stick to the reliable, comfortable, and easy-to-maintain 2014 Honda Accord?

Actual owners, mechanics, and car enthusiasts, please air your thoughts! no capping.

Thank you

Honestly, for now I’d pick the Accord and the reason is quite simple and I think relative to different individuals, and it is the fact that getting part for the Changan to me is going to be an hassle and I doubt they’ll be cheap either , most of the vehicles would have to be serviced/ repaired at their dealership and trust me their prices are not going to be cheap except if you can afford that, overall they’re nice vehicles but in the long run would require premium services for now but if you do end up getting the Chinese vehicle buy any of their branch here in Nigeria for the sake of technical know-how incase any issues arises.

if you are getting the Changan directly from China yourself; Changan dealerships won't touch it when it comes to servicing.

If you're getting it from an authorized dealer in Nigeria, it's worth the money over a car made in 2014.

my bias for Chinese vehicles asides, i'd recommend the Accord in terms of practicality.

stay blessed

Changan cars are very solid and loaded with more modern features.

And no new cars get to need serious maintenance until after 3 to 5 years.

The Chinese are doing wonderfully well in the automobile aspect.

If I were you, I won't think twice about this.
Re: Changan Cars Vs 2014 Honda Accord — I Need Your Honest Reviews! by OlujobaSamuel: 11:15am On May 21
If you have a million to cough out for major repairs, and a few hundred of thousands for maintenance, go for the Chinese new car, you are going to enjoy it.
If you are importing, you won't enjoy warranty from naija accredited dealers, however there are different service centres that can fix it.
In addition, if you are using it for just normal regular runs, and not commercial use, then you won't have to undergo any major repair for about 3 to 4yrs

This is a very interesting post. I had a conversation with a friend who bought a toks gle and he was regretting he didnt buy a brand new chinese car e.g geely or changan or byd

In my humble opinion brand new is better. You wont need any warranty for at least 8 years depending on the technology used on the cars.

let us know how it goes.

You didn't state the exact model of the Changan.

If I was truly in your shoes, and the Changan is the photo below, I'd go for the Changan.

By the way, Changan is beyond just visible tech and interior. Choose the Honda Accord 2014, if you strictly want the reliability it is known for. Although, you have to insider the history of the car and your maintenence culture

State the model and I'll modify my post.

Bro get the Changan! What model are you looking at?
Do your own research, watch YouTube videos, check forums and follow your own mind. I am certain the one you are looking at is more recent in years and offers more up to date features.
Changan is a very good car like every other car brands out there.
The Nigerian definition of a strong reliable car is one that can tolerate total abuse and lack of maintenance.

Absolutely! It's a straightforward, easy decision. The Honda Accord is undeniably the better choice for a reliable, comfortable ride. No fuss, no fuss at all!?

This is a classic clash between tested-and-trusted peace of mind and modern, cost-effective luxury.

Taking your Changan to a roadside mechanic is a massive gamble. These cars are packed with heavily integrated electronic control units (ECUs), complex sensor arrays, and direct-injection turbochargers. Our mechanics currently lack the proprietary diagnostic scanners required to communicate with these systems. You will need specialized technicians who understand modern Chinese platforms or electronic diagnostics.

Online platforms like chinesecars.ng now source parts specifically via your car's VIN, the majority of components are strictly special-order. If a critical sensor or unique suspension arm fails, your car could easily sit on jacks for 2 to 4 weeks while you wait for air freight from China, note that.

Mikano Motors are the official distributors of Changan and their industry-leading 6-year/200,000 km warranty only applies to vehicles bought directly through their official network.

So, If you choose to self-import a clean used or new Changan directly from China to save money upfront, Mikano will explicitly deny you warranty coverage and after-sales support for sure.

Furthermore, Chinese domestic market versions are calibrated for Chinese fuel specifications and climate. Mikano’s officially distributed models feature modified cooling systems and engine mapping specifically tuned to survive high-sulfur Nigerian fuel and harsh tropical heat. Importing directly leaves you completely exposed on a mechanical island.
Re: Changan Cars Vs 2014 Honda Accord — I Need Your Honest Reviews! by OMEGA009(m):
Man has always feared what he does not understand. OP, first ask yourself what you want.

What type of Honda car or what type of Changan. What is the mileage of each and what is the breakdown possibility.

For a Changan, you’d drive it for about 5 years without any major issues (unless okada or car accident) as it’s vitlrbrand new so na to just change oil and perhaps the “legs”, depending on where you live. The mileage is most likely below 1-10k miles and the engine is most likely 1.5-2.0 meaning it consumes less fuel (considering 1ltr=N1,400) but before you buy, make sure it’s EXPORT OR GCC SPEC and make sure you do your checks like VIN and co to prevent you from buying an accident led car.

For the Honda, you also have to consider mileage, wear and tear (accidented and panel beatings), safety and reliability, engine size in relation to fuel consumption and also the VIN.

If in doubt, ask ChatGPT or WhatsApp meta for better advice

Edit: I see some people saying that Chinese climate Cho Cho Cho. Export vehicles or GCC spec are different from what is driven in China. Those vehicles can be diagnosed by any diagnostic tool. As for the parts, these cars are made for the gulf region which have a harsher climate than Nigeria so they’re built tough. As for repairs and servicing, like I said, it’ll take about 5 years for any major defect and by then, there’ll be technicians that’ll repair it. Most of Changan engines are used in “popular” car brands so most mechanics should know how to fix them. Besides, as Igbo man dey import Changan and other Chinese cars in droves, what makes you think that other mechanics are folding their arms and waiting? Any mechanic worth his spanner has started poaching technicians from Mikano and most Mikano mechanics are probably opening their own “side hustle”. The same thing they said about KIA when I bought mine. I got a Kia mechanic who took a day off to do checks on my vehicle back then. Same will happen for the Changan. My 2 kobo

There is that beautiful lady you can date but something tells you to avoid her. That's Changan cars in Nigeria. The planned obsolescence in these cars are appalling. The more electronic gadgets, the more headaches when they go bad, which they will eventually do. Or won't a Nigerian mechanic be the one to open your bonnet? Availability of parts, knowledgeable mechanic and the Nigerian terrain should be your major concerns.

To buy easy. Na to maintain be wahala.
