Judgment On INEC Timetable Will Push Many Out Of APC, Says ADC by Omooba77(op): 10:17pm On May 21

A mass exodus is looming in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of the court verdict on the timelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of party primaries and the nomination of candidates.

Daily Trust reports that Justice Mohammed Umar of a Federal High Court in Abuja held that INEC’s action imposed restrictive timeframes on political parties for the conduct of primaries and other pre-election activities contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Justice Umar held that INEC lacked the statutory power to fix or prescribe the timeframe within which political parties must conduct their primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The plaintiff; Youth Party, had, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/517/2026, sued INEC as sole defendant.

Reacting to the judgement, Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC spokesman, said the ruling vindicates its vehement objections to key aspects of the electoral body’s guidelines at the time they were issued.

The ADC also recalled its specific objections to the timelines on membership registration, as well as the conduct of party primaries.

“The decision of the Court on these issues, including those that directly contradict the Constitution, is therefore a welcome vindication of our position,” the party said.

The party also said the ruling, which removes the impediment placed by the guidelines on politicians who wish to seek alternative platforms to contest elections, was a positive development that promotes freedom of association.

“We believed at the time that that particular restriction was designed to prevent people from leaving the ruling party, APC. Now that the court has ruled against it, we are sure that, in the coming days, we will witness a mass exodus from the ruling party."

I just laughed when I read that judgement. APC is already pushing people out of APC with the level of baba soope politics they’re playing in the primaries. That judgment is the final nail on the coffin.

We have so much distrust in the system now that some people even think the judgment was a trap for NDC. I don't know what to believe anymore. I have read comments that say things like after they failed to trap Obi in NDC, they now allow free movement. That NDC should be careful who they allow into their party. One thing is clear, and I hope it is sorted after this elections, there is no party discipline and parties should now be very hard on their members. Do you know it's the indiscipline of our governors that made it a situation where you have to be a former governor to become president? They gave Obasanjo the condition in 2006 which is why we had Yar'Adua and Jonathan, two governors at the time. Now they are taking over Senate.

APC is a funny party built on lies and deceit.
A governor is the automatic leader of the state party structure but not Fubara because Fubara is not a governor according to APC.
Because going by APC party arrangement, the governor is the party leader and cannot have his loyalties lossing party primaries. But Fubara loyalties were screened out of the party primaries. How do you explain that?

Rivers is my state and it pains me each time I remember that , that power greedy beast Wike is from same LGA and same tribe .
Now he's protecting another Ikwerre son as the next governor. Nah only Ikwerre dey Rivers. Fubara is just weak for my liking. He better stand his ground and make sure Wike doesn't rig our vote again to favour Thiefnūbu.
Let him fight to market sure APC lose everything.
Any candidate coming from other parts of Rivers will be fully supported by true Rivers indigenes. Not Wike bank account called governor.
