Today makes it a week that my money in my opay account was mysteriously transfer to one kuda account named Sani Hannatu. I contacted Opay through tweeted and was told it was under investigation. And up till now, they have not said anything. Please, I dont know who has an idea on how to get my money back. Mehn! Opay do me something!

I downloaded an app through an Ad on one of the social media and after installing it, I noticed my phone touch pad misbehaving and i uninstalled the app but the interface of the app remain on my phone despite removing it from the app list on my phone. Yet, the phone touch pad misbehaving. I already gave up to buy another phone and suddenly, my phone screen went blind and later showing updating app. After 3 hours, it was still showing same. I restarted the phone and restored factory setting. I checked my Opay account and noticed my money was gone. . How do i get my money back?

As much as you are right, we need to talk about how a scam app was able to get the thieves access into his bank account.

If a third party app can gain access without any form of verification or OTP and withdraw your funds, then we ain't safe any no longer.

Honestly your story illustrate how weak OPAY security system is.

I always have issues with Palmpay, there is unwanted an app "palmstore" that displays at the top of my phone screen. If I click the app by mistake it takes me straight to the sign in section of my PALMPAY app, therefore I hardly save money in my PALMPAY account.

The hacker took over his phone, so OTP, email verification and all MFA notifications will be received by the SCAMMER. So, the victim has NO CASE. He deliberately handed his device to the scammer. He has now learnt the hard way. Nothing is really free online.

For this hard times. Let's be safe. Do not install any app randomly.

1 case out of millions. This is a false Alarm. Na only you know wetin you don do. The guy must have fallen into a scam, filled some forms and made the transfer by himself, maybe a ponzi app. As money don go, you wan come dey blame opay. Dey play.

The scammer took over his phone. Opay wouldn't know he wasn't the one controlling the phone as at the time of the transaction.
OP no get case abeg and it doesn't show Opay is unsafe. The scammer could have moved money from any of his account.

You have no case and opay is not responsible abu you want to blame manufacturers of your Okon’s too?

You simply handed over control of your phone to that app and the reason it went blank was so u don’t see what’s happening

He didn't download opay from an app from what I understand, he downloaded another app that now affected his phone's performance and hence....

All this cork and bull story, no matter the campaign or false alarm Will bring opay down. Nobody forced anybody to use opay, there are hundreds of Banks and fintech out there.
You can't just bring a write up to the public without any single evidence

Android by default will block unknown apps and give multiple warnings so he did not install the app he got from social media by accident

Sounds to me like he deliberately installed a pirated app, gave it full permissions and is now amazed that it stole all his passwords etc.

That's a lesson for him.
The issue on the ground now is that some AI, like Mythos, can exploit even the hardest uncrackable flaw in any software. The banking industry and cyber security experts in America wants it banned. Even if it's banned it can go underground. So people are cautious with all these AI stuff.

Firstly, I don't even believe this narrative. It sounds made up. Secondly, let's even assume it's true, how is this Opay's fault?? There's no bank app anywhere in the world that is 100% hack proof. That is why bank apps receive constant app updates. Over 1 million Nigerians use opay daily for transactions and aren't complaining that their monies are being mysteriously withdrawn. As far as I know, Opay app is topnotch and secure.

You unknowingly installed it , it could watch and transmit everything you've done on your phone, so it logged into your opay with your password it saw you put ,
Is the amount lesser than the verification limit on opay , I'm curious to how it passed that ,lesser than 100k yh

Na OP do mistake to download an untrusted app outside of Playstore.
That said, some of the blame can still be placed on Opay and some other fintechs/banks that allow their apps to run while the device is in "dev mode" or on rooted devices. Some even allow other apps "draw over" them. These are security lapses.

The moderators moving this type of threads straight to the front page,need to be really careful to avoid attracting a law suit. This thread was instituted at around 04.00 hours this morning and by 06.00 hours ,it is already on the front page. This is despite the fact that the OP of the thread has a history of opening comical and inane threads on different topics all over this forum.

Let us study the facts.
The OP claims he downloaded an app from an advert on social media but does not mention the name of the advert nor the name of the app he claimed to have downloaded.
The OP did not provide any screen shot of the aftermath of the effects of the app download on his phone.
The OP did not tell us the make of the phone he was using for this process.
The OP failed to tell us how much money was lost.
Next thing is the OP screen shots the logo of the Opay bank under his thread.

This in my humble opinion is either a joke thread instigated for the OP's personal morbid amusement or an calculated hack job to smear a rival.
Either way this kinds of threads need to be thoroughly investigated before gracing the front page,but then,what do I know?

phishing attacks, malicious malware attacks (viruses) like this are usually created to obtain information such as passwords, bank details, even personal details… una go just buy fone for fancy u don’t even knw what u can do with that fone… the virus 🦠 will freeze ur fone.. while d originator is busy harvesting.. dats why u don’t download every app u see in ads.. even all dis loan apps in ads are examples dey are clones in disguise not all are real but traps 🪤
