With remote access… those verifications are not available. They used the dodge app he downloaded to screen record his activities. With those data they remotely accessed the opay app on his phone with the same login details, and accessed his funds… no brainer!

in IOS do you know the process the hacker has to go before getting such app on his screen? Infact IOS won’t even let it scale through, all what you said is possible on android that’s my point.

The hacker took over his phone, so OTP, email verification and all MFA notifications will be received by the SCAMMER. So, the victim has NO CASE. He deliberately handed his device to the scammer. He has now learnt the hard way. Nothing is really free online .

What is this? I don't know that android phone users are no longer downloading apps from playstore free of charge again. When he clearly said that he downloaded app from non trusted third party

I believe that's exactly what he said. If you don't download app from playstore, you have to give it permission yourself to be able to install it. I'm guilty of this with tubemate app. Mistake has been made already

Not just install. As you run the app permission requests will be popping up

Access to picture, access to location, access to video, etc. So if you have an app that get as e be then it is better you carefully consider the permissions you grant.

You will notice in all this the guy no name the app. Which tells me it is not just a cracked app, but likely something much much worse.

You better stand up , go Opebi straight their head office and go make in person complaint and don't bank on sending messages from your house .. and I think you've learnt your lesson from just downloading APKs , and I am very sure you're warned by the installation security on your phone , that the installation of the app is coming from an unknown source but you proceed .. go make Opebi Ikeja Opay office..

Simply report the matter to central bank. But first send an email to Opay warning them of they don't take action quickly and reverse the transaction, or block the scammer's account you'll report to CBN. All banks are scared of CBN.

Such type of app is called auto keylogger.
It will record everything (all keyboard strokes) you do on your phone or compute, including taking screenshots of all pages and forms you open or visited.

If this is true, they just took control over his phone and did justice to it.

The money did not dissappear immediately he downloaded the app do you know why? Because the hackers need enough data before attacking and that's exactly what the app on the phone will do.
The app is simply screen recording whatever he is doing on his phone from the background. He might have done transactions on his phone when the infested app was there and his Opay was captured.

Opay only send you OTP when you're logging in from a new device.

The transfer was done from his own phone because the hackers had remote access of his phone.

He literally gave access of his phone to the hackers when he downloaded their app.

No bank app that will request OTP from you each time you want to access the app on your phone. OTP is mainly requested when you're logging in from a new device.
