So theirs Oja Oba in Benin too? Is it also located beside the Kings’ palace?

The major way to ascertain a Yoruba town/settlement is that the Oja obas are always beside the Kings palace and that’s mostly the city centre. Every other parts are built surrounding both.

Not insinuating Benin is a Yorubaland by the way. Just asking out of curiosity and saying so others can learn.

But as at today only a small section had been reconstructed, like 70% portion of the market is still undone.

Oba was quoted as saying Yoruba came from benin,whereas history had it that all Yorubas are from ile ife.One of oranmiyan daughters is the founder of benin till today.

I cannot remember when EDO People were so elated like this during the last PDP -governor and his grammar -delusional rigmarole then.

My grandma didn't go to school but she was the head of a major market in Ijebu Ode and she managed the people effectively before her call to glory bcoz of her experience having been in the market for over 50 years.

I used to buy food stuff in this market when I served as a coper Faith mediplex. Nice market then but a bit better from what I am seeing. At least make governor wey no go school build market at least. The man is uninspiring esp when you keep him beside the SI Unit for governance OTTI. 😁

Yes, not just in Benin City. Throughout Edo State. In Esanland, almost every community has its major market named 'eki olele' - eki = market, olele = the king's compound. It's always close to the palace and around the town's centre.

Doesn't make Benin City or Edoland Yorubaland though. Well, I'm no expert on that - the experts will tackle you. Just don't let Chief Nosa Isekhure hear you. Lol.

Benin empire state is more than 4000 years old, has had 3 dynasties and 12 kings before the Oba era, oldest yoruba settlement is around 1300 years old, evidence of this is in archeological tests done on the great Benin city walls, Benin moat and priceless Benin bronze works and artefacts. Recent history of 17th and 18th century showed Benin controlling the waterways of Niger Delta axis, down to Lagos and Dahomey, trading with the Portuguese, that stretch of waterway is named after Benin (bight of Benin), first Lagos king was a Benin Prince, Prince Ado. Stop this nonsense, a son can not teach a father anything, a son copies from the father. Benin created your major earlier cities, ile'Ife and Lagos.
