Panic has gripped the Umulogho community in the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State following the gruesome killing of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho, identified as Wendy Achumba.

The student was reportedly found beheaded in her room on Thursday evening after neighbours became worried when she neither came out nor responded to repeated calls.

Sources in the community said the victim, who hailed from Ngwa in Abia State, had completed her midwifery programme and was undergoing post-basic training at the institution.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said neighbours forced their way into her room after several unsuccessful attempts to reach her, only to discover her lifeless body with her head severed.

The source added that the door was still firmly locked with the key, while the victim’s mobile phone could not be found.

Another resident, identified simply as Ike, said the incident was shocking as the deceased was seen alive a day earlier.

“We don’t know who did this or why she was killed. When we forced the door open, it was still locked from the inside. Someone checked and dismissed fears of rape, but her phone was missing,” the source said.

The incident has thrown the community into fear, while students of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, were said to be in panic over the development.

It was further gathered that tension heightened in the area as angry youths confronted policemen who arrived at the scene, while the corpse had yet to be evacuated to the morgue as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said investigations had commenced into the killing.

“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Okoye said.

“Following the report, the DPO and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited in the morgue, while investigations have commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible.

“Consequently, the Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring them that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice,” he added.

It was mostly burglary and fraud cases we had, and in rare cases, armed robbery. Murder was almost non existent. Cultism was hidden. It was called secrete cult, with harldy u see confrontation. In the rare robbery or murder cases, action was very swift. within a week after, u hear announcements from police that so and so, who committed murder or armed robbery at so and so place, would be executed by so and so time at arcade. Crowd would be present, with police working overtime controlling em, asking all to pls move behind the shooters. Nigeria was almost like barracks every where, both day and night, u do any how and see any how immediately. Evil dey fear good .Democracy, though good,allowed too many nonsense .Most Gen z no get idea of this.

Back in those days, going to Umuahia..... Umulogho Obowo was a very big problem. But for some years, with good roads and people not moving around with cash, it's quietened that place and it's been peaceful for a while until this ugly incident. Someone very close to her did this.

Honestly. It's so sad.

When any criminal is apprehended, take he/she through the courts. And execute such publicly. No mercy. From arrest to sentencing of these hardcore criminals shouldn't be more than 4 weeks.

Let the world see the fruit of wickedness.

That report stated rape & sliting of throat, not Beheading.

But regardless, this country is currently a mess.

Apart from the high crime rate, the murder rate is so alarming, but somehow, we are absolving it all, even with the mighty fire that is almost burning down the mountain.

In those days, my mum makes sure we watch it and she does the explanation of how Mr A stole ₦5, and Mr B killed somebody.

This macabre crime is not something you rush to press with solution.
It is not a chochocho thing, we just have to think and think then continue thinking.
It is only the police and neighbours that can help.
