Kuwait Detains Over 200 Nigerians Over Salary Disagreement by Ironfaceman(op): 1:47pm On May 24
More than 200 Nigerians are currently being held in a detention camp (deportation facility) in Kuwait following a dispute over salaries and alleged labour exploitation involving Kuwaiti companies, according to victims and relatives.

One of the detainees, in a voice note shared with THE WHISTLER, appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other Nigerian authorities to urgently intervene and evacuate those being held.

The detainee said many Nigerians in the camp had spent between four and six months in detention without being deported or formally charged.

“Presently, we are in the Kuwait deportation camp. Most Nigerians here have spent within six months, four months thereabout, and none of them have been deported,” he said.

According to him, the prolonged detention has left many detainees battling depression and mental health challenges.

“Some Nigerians are even getting mad in this place, like they are beginning to have mental problems,” he added.

The detainee explained that the crisis began after workers complained about poor treatment and salary discrepancies by their employer.

Further details were provided by the wife of one of the detained Nigerians, who spoke with THE WHISTLER on condition of anonymity.

She said the workers had reported their employer to Kuwait’s manpower authorities after discovering that their salaries were far below what had been promised.

According to her, the company had allegedly promised workers the equivalent of about N2.5m monthly but paid some of them around N750,000.

That was what made them angry. The owner of the company started deducting money for different things that were never part of their agreement,” she said.

She also alleged that the employer confiscated workers’ passports and ATM cards, making it difficult for them to access their earnings or leave the country.

“The moment they entered Kuwait after their documentation, the man seized their passports. He also collected the ATM cards meant for them,” she claimed

The woman said after the workers reported the matter, Kuwaiti authorities invited them to what they described as a government lodge, promising either accommodation, new jobs or repatriation to Nigeria.

“The government told them they could stay there and that anyone who wanted to return home would have their flight ticket booked,” she said.

However, she alleged that the workers were later detained after authorities accused them of violating Kuwaiti laws by gathering against their employer.

She further claimed that communication with detainees has been severely restricted, with many unable to access their phones.

“He cannot even call me directly. He only uses the detention phone to leave voice messages,” she said.

The detainee also accused the Nigerian embassy in Kuwait of failing to take concrete action despite allegedly visiting the camp.

“We have not seen any effort from them. People are beginning to wonder why Nigerians have remained here while other nationalities are being deported,” he said.

Another detainee said in a voice note that Kuwaiti authorities may be preparing to charge them to court, raising further uncertainty over their fate.

Similarly, another detainee pleaded with the Igbo community in Kuwait to intervene and help them reach the Nigerian embassy for assistance, adding that many of them are sick.

The affected families are now calling on the Nigerian government and relevant authorities to intervene urgently and secure the release or repatriation of the detainees.

When THE WHISTLER contacted the spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, for comment, he requested that a message be sent to him.

However, he had not responded as of the time of filing this report.

THE WHISTLER also spoke with Gabriel Odu of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), who promised to call our correspondent back. However, he had not done so at the time of filing this report.

Efforts by THE WHISTLER to reach the Kuwait Embassy in Nigeria via nigeria@mofa.gov.kw were unsuccessful, as the email address could not be delivered.

Imagine when black people travel to all this foreign Oyinbo country they call them immigrants and when the Oyinbo comes to Africa they are expatriate with empty skull.

But in Nigeria they will give them personal security that's not enough for the citizen here with high class treatments, see how they are treating our people working in their country.
Our leaders needs to do something ASAP cos we can't continue this way as a country.

This is the same issue in Oman too. 2014. Na so them change salary and payment agreement details overnight. Forced at gunpoint to hand over passports. Luckily, I gave them a fake one. Na so I bolt out of the country with help of sympathizers. Them use Interpol trace me come Warri. After explaining everything and showing substantial evidence to international popo, they left me but advised me never to go to any Arab country again. If not for my uncle wey be triple chief, I for spend 15 years for jail.

Anything Arab, count me out. Kafala system ain't a joke.

Anything Arab, run!

Japan? To do what? Shelve that idea. They don't like seeing those who are not their colour. You stand a chance of going to Europe, Amerika, Australia, or New Zealand and making it than all these funny countries.

Kuwait ambassador will still tell lies and defend his fraudulent brothers and accuse the coloured people of collaboration.

These people? Don't trust them atall. I rather trust a Jew than trust them.

Re: Kuwait Detains Over 200 Nigerians Over Salary Disagreement by Robertgreene1(m):
Lol, this same Kuwait that l was working for one guy like that as a travel agent. Intrestingly enough, l met the guy on this very forum and l was getting clients for him from this forum as well and making my money. The guy even offered to sponsor me to Kuwait. But the day l lost my appetite both for the job and relocating over there was the day l researched deeply about the place and discovered that they still use the "Kafala" sponsorship system just like most Arab countries, which basically means that you're legally bonded to the person/company that sponsored you to the country. In other words, you're the legal modern slave of the person/company that sponsored you to the country, cus you can't get a job, or change job or even leave the country without that person/company's approval. Omo, na that very day l comot my hand and mind for anything wey concern Kuwait. I don't even work for the guy anymore sef cus my conscience no gree me again to continue lieing to the unsuspecting clients that were paying at least 2M for the visa processing. So my candid advice is this: Before you travel to any country, do your research about that place very very well to avoid stories that touches the heart and soul. And you see all those Arab and Gulf countries...Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia etc etc, don't even wish your worst enemy to travel to those countries to "hustle", talkmore of going there yourself, cus na modern day slavery dey wait for you over there!!!
All those ones over there that you see throwing money up and down, 95% of them are into drug trafficking, Yahoo, or Visa fraud. That Visa fraud of a thing is one underated and overlooked crime. But some niggas dey chop money for there pass Yahoo and drugs sef l swear. Working for that Kuwaiti based guy really opened my eyes on how it is very very easy to chop gullible Nigerians via Visa fraud l swear. A Visa fraudster can collect like 3M each from like 10,000 gullible Nigerians, then legitly sponsor like 50 of them abroad, so he can be using them for advertising that he's genuine, then chop the money of the rest of the remaining 9,950 Magas. You can now do the Math.
Those peeps no get joy at all, that's why you will always see them throwing money up and down in less than 3 years that they travelled abroad like say money dey grow for trees over there.
I remember one of my guys that travelled to Ukraine of all places, and in less than a year, he was already snapping pictures with White people and posting ads on Facebook, looking for Magas to sponsor abroad grin

Arabs have zero respect for human rights unless you are American or European. Even their own people barely have rights, not to talk of an African from a badly run continent.

Before you travel to a country, study about how they treat their own citizens. Human right is alien to Arab and Islamic countries.

So you are saying that I went to another man's land to misbehave?

Just listen to yourself. I did both BSC, MSC and professional certification in Nigeria, and got employed in a job overseas, in an Arab man's land, to uplift my family from poverty, and all what you could say is this?

Shame on you.
