Yesterday i received a call from a friend who left for Portugal about a month ago, the lamentation for rent no be here o. 600k naira monthly when you convert the Euro amount to naira just for one room apartment in a five bedroom flat, shared toilet and kitchen with all the occupants of the other saperate rooms. You people and this tax mentality in your head, I don't understand where it came from. For example you get a job paying you £1,000 per month, when getting paid there will be a tax deduction of £10.
Now will that deduction affect you in any way knowing fully well that you still have £990 to keep?

We wear thick clothings and there is 247 electricity to use heater unlike in Nigeria, crazy heat , no electricity to use AC.

While in Nigeria, I had very few friends and rarely had visitors over or visited people... After work, I stay home with my family. That's enough.

Travel with a Plan. Travel with sense. Travel with your eyes open, and not with a rose colored lense. If possible, travel while maintaining a source of income in your home country.

People like me prefer to travel and return. Travel with a goal, acheieve it in a few months or not more than a year, and return home. For.me, there is no place like home.

One thing most folks who travel are not told or prepared for is, where you are going, there are people (selfish, greedy, less as hard working, scheming, mischievous, who see you as rivals, nosey-watching your every move; people who blame the government; entitled, wicked, racist / discrimatory/ unclear tax system, criminals especially during refund time etc) there too...take aside the 'working' system and you will see what everyone is running away from their ' home' from, is very, very, very present, infact more established/sophisticated than where we are coming from. The problems of the world do not stem from location, but more from people: man's fallen, continued journey from the 'east' rather than 'back to God's Odyssey and perpetual rebellion from God.

Also, what do you mean by initial capital?. It is not about how much but how faithful and prudent you are to grow it.

I know a Woman who has sponsored children up to univerisy abroad with only plantain. beginning from humble retailer and roaster of plantain to a.major supplier.

Personally i would need to earn up to at least 20 x more, to live the quality of life over there that I am.living here. And i dont do.any illegal business.

A lot of you are just lazy and want fast money. But you will learn that there is no fast money anywhere.

If your entire point was about 1) me discouraging people and 2) UK being better than any African country. Then i can respond.

1. I have not discouraged anyone from travelling. I have siblings (same mother and father)who are permanent residents in UK, Canada and US so i have a realistic picture of things. I am just asking people to not relocate based on illusions and false fantasies

2. UK is better than any African country? Better Based on what parameters. Taxes? Racism? Immigration issues? Cost of living? Weather? Do you know that the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth? Or that it is one of the cloudiest, least sunny countries in the world? Do you know that there are at least 5 countries with much better GDP growth than the Uk? Do you know that every single African country except perhaps a few tiny island nations is larger than the UK?

Even if it is true that UK is better? Is everyone in UK better off than everyone in Africa? The obvious answer is a resounding NO! There are people who are poor in Uk and there are people who are rich in Africa. There are people like my Dad who can travel to the UK but dont like to stay even one day longer than they have to.

My key point is: "better" depends entirely on what metrics matter to you. So stop making generalizations like every African youth can only improve their chances if they Japa. That is what I mean by Lazy thinking.
