The Calabar–Abuja Trans-Sahara Superhighway is an ongoing 465-kilometer legacy infrastructure project designed to connect Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT. It is being constructed to seamlessly link the South-South, South-East, and North-Central regions.

Route Breakdown
Starting Point: Calabar, Cross River State

Ebonyi State Axis: The route enters via Ndibe Beach in Afikpo, passing through Amasiri, Onueke, and Abakaliki before extending to the Ebonyi–Benue boundary. Construction and expansion are actively ongoing on the Akpoha–Afikpo axis.

Benue State Axis: From the Ebonyi border, the road continues into Benue State, eventually linking up with the Oweto Bridge.

Nasarawa & Abuja: From Benue, the route connects into Nasarawa State before heading directly into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Current Project Status
Construction Progress: Active clearing, cutting, and road expansion works are underway, with significant segments actively being dualized to meet high engineering standards.

Travel Impact: Once the superhighway is fully completed, the long stretch from the South-East regions to Abuja is expected to drop significantly in travel time.

Obidients call this waste of resources and that roads aren't important for national development......with this road u can do calabar to Abuja in 4 hrs,imagine what that will do to the economies of benue,ebonyi and cross rivers......you can clear your goods at calabar port and ship northwards with ease......fewer congestion on our highways will make them last longer.

Very impressive project I must say. The downside is that it gives Fulani militants easy access to areas they never had access to before. Fulani kidnappings and killings exploded in zone C senatorial district of Benue state soon after the Oweto bridge was completed. That bridge and the road that came with it, gave the Fulani who are based in Nasarawa state, easy access to Idoma land.

The administration has really tried in infrastructure, like the Lagos section of the coastal highway has drastically reduced traffic on the lekki-epe corridors. Now I don't have to wake 5@m in order to get to ikoyi from ajah at 8@m. If you live along this axis you'll truly understand what I'm talking

Hmmmm ....super highway ...two lanes only. Well done. Ordinary highways have shoulders....in case of emergencies as in break downs. Imagine the truck in the video breaks down...then what? ...or there's a head on collision ? You have an imagination. Super highway indeed .

As a strong and unrepentant supporter of BAT, I say this is high commendable.... And I pray he does more of it because this is the least that every Nigerian deserve....
However, he needs to improve in the area of securing the lives of the people.... Na who dey alive dey use the roads..... Kidnap for ransom have become a flourishing business for all criminals in Nigeria and the government need to find a way to break that chain....
Also, measures need to be taken to improve the welfare of the people... For people like me.... I don't care about the cost of goods... But let me have something doing, so I can afford to buy things no matter how expensive they get.....
