Kobojunkie:A child sleeping in class is not necessary indisciplined... That's not what I meant by my comment. But leave plantain make e ripe naim dey make plantain rotten A child sleeping in class is not always brain fatigue or tiredness. It can be lack of interest in the subject, laziness or bad habit, staying up late for entertainment ( phone, games or social media play) It's not about leaving the brain to rest there is time for everything. As they say train/catch them young! |

Here in the West, they usually have rooms special meant for beds because of situations like this. They will just take the child to the bed to sleep very well. But if the child does it everyday, the school will inform the parents or ward so they become aware. This is very common among children and they should be treated as children that they're. Dem no born you for Europe to wake that child from that sleep during class. Though the teacher are well trained and they know how to handle every situation without deprivation of the child rights. |

pocohantas:Children are hyperactive. If a child is sleeping in class in the morning it likely means he/she was up all night. Very possible if there is no regulation of device use or TV watching in the house. |

In nursery/primary 1_2, students tend to sleep a lot in class due to physical development. It's part of the growth process. |

I'm sure the school would have provided the teacher with a guideline on how to manage the pupils under her care, including in situations like this when a child falls asleep during classroom hours. What the teacher simply needs to do in moments like this is to act according to what is prescribed by the school so as not to be seen to be acting outside the rule book. However, in rare situations where the school did not specifically spell out what actions to take when a student falls asleep during school hours, the teacher should bring it to their notice for further directives. |

He should be made to stand up for the sleep to leave him. He can't be sleeping during learning hours. Lets learn to cultivate the study culture in our kids while it is yet day and not when it becomes too late. |

Let him.sleep If you wake him up, it doesn't matter what you teach him, it won't enter his head. |

brain54:Try as I may, I have never been able to get myself to fall asleep simply because I was bored. I could tune out or shift my attention to other things, but fall asleep.... no! Why? Because boredom is not tiredness. And tiredness is not a bad habit. Staying up when you are instead supposed to sleep is a bad habit, but tiredness in and of itself is not a bad habit. It is as simple as that. 😒 2. Study after study has shown that it is hard to learn much when the brain is tired. It is actually ineffective to attempt to teach or learn when the brain is tired. 😒 3. You can't train a person's brain not to get tired. I know this since I have been battling a sleep disorder for many years now. 😒 |

When I was a classroom assistant many years ago, there was a boy of similar age as the one in the picture who slept after lunch almost everyday. He always came to school with a full lunch pack and would finish everything and sleep after. Waking him up was difficult. Most times, we left him. He always took the last position but because his parents were always the first to pay school fees, we changed the ranking system from position-based to percentage-based. That way, his parents wouldn't think he was doing poorly compared to his mates. Long story short, he got a full ride Masters scholarship to the US after his first degree in Nigeria. Surprisingly, the scholarship had absolutely nothing to do with what he studied at the Nigerian university. There was a creative side of him (story writing/poetry) he discovered and seriously explored while at the Nigerian university and during NYSC. By the time he finished service, he'd had some works published internationally. That earned him the scholarship. I think being well-rested, being less pressured as a child really helped him. My assumption may be wrong as I'm not a child psychologist. |

Kobojunkie:Kobo a sleep disorder is what it is... A disorder People sleep out of boredom. Especially in controled spaces like a classroom where they are restricted from shifting attention to other things! |
| Re: IN ALL HONESTY: How Would You Advise This Classroom Teacher? by youngrichnigga: 6:16pm On May 25 |
Please allow him if there nothing amusing in what the teacher teaches! Children at this age ought to do more of creative playtime activities to develop their prefrontal cortexes rather than be subjected to the boring academics that are useless to their future lives, we need a thorough revision of the early school curricular in Nigeria if we want to progress in technology and inventions ![]() |

marlow1962:Haba, don't be this wicked. If you wake him up from such a deep sleep in this weather, do you think you can get his attention? Only teachers who teach kids and toddlers will understand. It's not as easy as you think. |

brain54:1. A sleep disorder does not jump out of nowhere. It develops, in many cases, over time. 😒 2. My brain still struggles tremendously with boredom and is tired a lot. But you know what does not come as a result. It is sleep. Yes, I am majorly sleep deprived and unable to pay attention much, even if my life depended on it. However, for many years, I have had to take pills to induce sleep. So, forgive me for not buying the claim that boredom leads to sleep. 😒 A bored child does not automagically switch to sleep. If he/she is well rested, he could still sit through boring lecture after boring lecture without falling asleep. 😒 |
