SourYoghurt:First of all, don't blame yourSelf for having "AC breaker" and not using it as you don't need it when not using Grid (NEPA / PHCN / Generator). As for now, so long the hybrid inverter still recognises battery, would suggest your technician first tests the solar panels output to ensure it's reading and so long the Solar panel works, you got 2 options: either Fix your hybrid inverter OR get an external charge Controller You asked [b]"Is there a way to charge using external charger and bypass the in-built charging in the inverter?"[/b YES. Just notify your technician. He / She should know what to do. Just so you know, the moment you quit using the internal built-in charge controller, you loose all advantages a hybrid inverter offers when it comes to battery management. |

bassdow:thank you but will the wire from the roof be sparking if there is a problem from the roof? I don't have the opportunity to fix it immediately because that'll mean I'll be without power for days as I am in a village. In addition do you have suggestions for external charger controller? What's the price range? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 8:39pm On May 24 |
SourYoghurt:first of all, I don't get what you meant by "if the wire from roof would be sparking..." Secondly, have always said it to mention max budget when asking for product recommendations. The cost of some used charge controllers can buy 2pcs of brand new one of some types. Also, you need be sure whatEver charge contorller you getting matches your current setUp. Once again, would suggest you guys first check the solar array to ensure it's supplying. If issue is from the roof and you jump and get an external charge controller, you end up wasting money + time. Also, you ought be speaking with your technician as He/She has physical access to the setUp and would have more information to make more informed decision. No need directing you as it's obvious you don't have enough basic knowledge to do things yourSelf. Also, I'm not always here so don't always expect instant response. |

Hello everyone I stumbled upon this thread as I am trying to get a solid power backup. But omo, I can't go through all the 2k+ threads. So currently, I have a Luminous Zelio 12V 1KVA inverter (pic attached) with 2 Luminous Inverlast 220AH Tubular batteries. However, I think the batteries are weak now as they don't last more than 2-3hours on a simple MTN FiberX router. I want to ask if I can use a 12V LiFePO4 battery with inverter. If I can pair the inverter with a LiFEPO4 batteery, which battery should choose between wattcycle and HumsiENK. (you may recommend any other option). I am on a tight budget and I am trying to get the best possible value for money. Thank you

XPaul:Actually, so long an inverter is 12v from any brand, it would work with whatEver 12v battery (from any brand) you give to it. When it comes to how to recharge the batteries, except you intends using Solar panels, you need be sure the inverter supports Lithium based batteries. What that means is, if you intends charging the batteries using the inverter's built-in charger via Generator / NEPA / PHCN, then be sure the inverter's inbuilt-charger supports Lithium based battery (most old ones don't) BUT if you intends using Solar panels, then no issue. As for being on tight budget, everyOne is, just came back from Enugu where the client used similar phrase YET spent over 3-million naira. na Big man cry pass |

Hello guys, how can someone check or determine the state of health of a lithium battery without doing capacity test? I mean using the information available on the BMS interface. |

| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by AyarmBoye(m): 9:26am On May 25 |
XPaul:the inverter is a transformer based inverter which doesn’t support the charging lithium batteries..however as bassdow have said,,you can use solar to charge the lithium battery or get an external lithium charger…but when you connect the inverter to lithium battery don’t connect the inverter to grid cause it will start undercharging the lithium… Meanwhile using 1kva 12v inverter with 2 200ah batteries doesn’t make sense without external charger…the ikva inverter bearly has 15-17amps charging capacity for the 2 batteries..maybe nah watin cause the luminous batteries to go bad be that..You may have been undercharging them while constantly deep discharging them |

I feel he shud test each battery on d inverter to find d faulty one. Kus I believe one of d battery is still good. AyarmBoye: |

oloet:Bros, i kid you not. Since i dey remove am, surge nor dey enter from grid anymore. That was d only solution that works, taking change over to neutral alone doesnt work for it. |

I am currently using just one battery on the inverter. The other one is bad bad and I plan to sell them as scrap. cyif2003: |

Thank you for your contribution. Looks like my current inverter is not fit. I will get to that level where 3million is tight budget by God's grace. bassdow: |

XPaul:Hope you aware buying a Lithium battery charger means you get to rely on NEPA / Generator ? Except your landLord doesn't allow solar panels, Solar panels would be more effective. |

XPaul:12v 20a is about 45k 30a about 60k….but do note that if you are on prepaid e Dey chop light o….30ah 12v is about 360watts per hour…Solar is better 2 pieces of 400-500 watts will do well with better Mppt cc….maybe 45a cc should do the trick sha…..initially it will be expensive but on the long run u will save a lot |

The thing is our light is very stable ( I am on band A) so i need a back-up for router and laptop for the few times there won't be light. My work is hybrid. I am not planning to go off-grid. If 30ah is about 360watts per hour, it means that a 100ah lithium battery will consume about 1.2kwhs of grid light. That costs about NGN 1k on band A (am I right?). I think that is fair if my analysis is correct. Do you know anyone selling the charger? AyarmBoye: |

Solar people how una Dey enjoy the current weather ? I haven’t had a full charge on my battery for 2 days now, totally off grid system no nepa or gen charging. |

fuckboys:You're in Lagos and saying this. What of Oguun state residents who even on normal weather don't see as much viable sunLight like Lagosians. Either way, a properly sized solar system wouldn't notice things much. Been 100% ofGrid since the days of President Yaradua. Both the 12v and 48v systems doing perfectly well |

I think it's like up to 2-months now or more that I made mention of somethings YET it seems it's all noise. Quality brand new Solar panels is very very very scare in the market Ooo. I say this because I know a lot of direct importers. And most of them have been out of stock for long with most saying almost same thing: "we're waiting for our shipment" . and that's mostly due to the conflict between iRan vs US + isRael. Funny enough, USEd solar panels are equally affected annd also some brand of inverters (even the China Ones sef) are also low in stock. These things means prices of things have increased a lot. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 8:54am On May 27 |
Lately, there seem to be an increase of Fire outbreaks linked to Solar installations. I know some of those issues would be linked to the following 1. Quark engineers / installers: Poor installations by those wey think say dem sabi work. 2. Substandard materials: Fakes plenty in thhe market. There has always been FAKEs in thhe market BUT those numbers have risen astronomically within the past 2-years. Our dear broters sabi overDo things. There's another variable that increases chance of things going bad; not just fiire outBreak BUT things like inverters going bad: Would skip mentioning that BECAUSE I have said it like 2 times before. Hopefully those who ain't Lazy enough to read my long comments saw it. na So we go dey do am going forward. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 9:05am On May 27 |
A lot of times, people chat / call and after a while, their complains revolves around a lot of things already shared in here. They probably missed them because they avoided helpFul comments they saw as unnecessary long epistle. They need understand one thing: there's always a cost to whatever we do; You're either patient enough to read or you got the funds to pay. Several years ago when I moved from Windows OS to Linux (centOs, then Debian) on an enterprise level, I spent a lot of time in forums helping mySelf (the internet wasn't as overly matured as it currently is.); alternative would have been to pay for support BUT I traded Time for Money because then I could afford the Time, but not the Money. Today, what took me close to half a day rarely occurs annd when it does, costs me less than a minute. A lot of us come in here, getting for FREE information that cost us time (and money) to learn BUT probably because You paid nothing for it, you fail to appreciate it. |
