Former Southampton FC and Royal Antwerp FC forward Victor Udoh has died at the age of 21, with reports indicating that the circumstances surrounding his death are being treated as suspicious.

According to reports, Udoh was found dead in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, shortly after returning to Nigeria following the end of his spell with Czech club Dynamo České Budějovice.

The exact cause of death has not been disclosed, while authorities are yet to provide official details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Udoh was regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young football talents. He began his career with Abuja-based academy Hypebuzz before securing a move to Royal Antwerp in Belgium, where he impressed at reserve level by scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances.

His performances earned him promotion to the first team, where he went on to make 28 appearances for the Belgian side.

In 2024, the striker joined Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year contract. However, he spent only seven months at the English club and did not make a senior appearance before leaving by mutual consent in search of regular playing opportunities.

He later moved to Dynamo České Budějovice in the Czech Republic before returning to Nigeria.

Udoh’s death has sparked shock among football followers, with tributes expected from former teammates, clubs and supporters who followed his career.

Food posioning...which is a generic term for eating food contaminated with certain types of bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. In other words, the food was not prepared under sanitary conditons. and the infection was bad enough to actually cause him serious harm.

Alcohol poisioning means that he may have drank so much alcohol that his central nervous system was supressed, including the bits that control the heart and the breathing, which led to his death (the liver can only process one drink of alcohol at a time).

It had nothing to do with his friends, otherwise many of our top players past and present would have long since been ded too. Oshimen still keeps friends in Lagos. Why haven't they done him in, lol?

Well said, those same friends would have more to gain by him being alive so why would they poison him?

Being an athlete and living abroad, he won't have the same tolerance for food that they, presumably living in Nigeria, would have.
