Rare Fruits Found In The North With Their Nutritional Values (video/pictures) by LocalFARMERS(op): 8:59pm On May 28

The North have some rare fruits that are only found in the North. These fruits are highly nutritious.They are mostly grown in the desert and places without much rain.

Some of these fruits include Goruba (Doum fruit or Gingerbread fruit), Adua (Desert Date), Dabino (Date), Aya (Tiger nut), Samiyan Biri (Black Velvet Tamarind) etc.

Those years at hadeja road I used to buy it from masu baro with enough kwakwa.the feeling is heavenly.

Aya(dried tigernuts that one I don't like it for one day.

I still eat dry Aya till date. But we use it mostly to prepare Kunun zaki. It gives the Kunu a milki taste

I missed kunu zaki and kunu gaida.i used I use to prepare it for my family before but my mynd just comot .

But you masa and wain/kilisi I don't joke with ithem.

I have my freezer currently stocked with kunu aya I prepared for my family. My boys like it anytime they come home for holidays.

Tiger nut + dabino + coconut. Delicious and cool.

Some of the the fruits you mentioned are not peculiar to the North .
Velvet Tammarine and garden egg specifically.

I use to think that this dabino is processed from it's original natural form to an artificial product, making it no difference from white sugar.

There's something called "bush carrot" in Nigeria. Anywhere know where I can find them to buy? I'd like to plant them if possible.

It never seem a date fruit (dabino) tree anywhere in the north before. Are u sure they are not imported?

These were some of the delights at different times in my life.

This country is beautiful, and every region and tribe has its own uniqueness. It is just unfortunate that, after over 60 years of independence, we have not been able to fully integrate and embrace one another.

I will continue to say this: our problem is not just a leadership problem; it is also a psychological and cultural problem. We have, in some ways, inherited and unconsciously developed prejudices against one another, although we often live in denial of this uncomfortable truth.

Goruba was one of my delights during primary school.

I hope we all get it right someday.
