While Others Drove Past, Police Officers Stopped To Save A Dying Man In The Rain

In a time when many Nigerians question whether humanity still exists on our roads, something remarkable happened today along the Nassarawa Eggon–Akwanga Road in Nasarawa State.

At about 5:12pm on May 27, 2026, a Black Toyota Camry with registration number ABC-327-MQ was involved in a lone accident during heavy rainfall. The impact reportedly flung the driver, Suleiman Hamidu popularly known as “Durbi,” completely out of the vehicle, leaving him helpless and lying in his own blood by the roadside.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that several vehicles reportedly passed the scene in the rain without stopping to help.

But then came a team of police officers attached to the Threat Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), returning from official assignment from Otukpo, Benue State to Abuja, led by CSP Ayuba Nehemiah.

Despite the dangerous weather and difficult conditions, the officers immediately stopped and rushed to save the victim.

Without hesitation, CSP Ayuba Nehemiah and his team personally arranged for a Keke NAPEP to evacuate the badly injured man to the General Hospital, Nassarawa Eggon.

On arrival at the hospital, CSP Ayuba Nehemiah identified himself to medical personnel and immediately paid from his personal pocket for the victim’s preliminary emergency medical treatment to ensure doctors commenced urgent intervention without delay.

Even after ensuring treatment had started, the police officer did not simply walk away. He contacted the DPO of Nassarawa Eggon Division, Ashi Musa, to ensure proper police intervention and support, while also alerting the FRSC to deploy personnel for traffic management and accident control to prevent further tragedy on the rain-soaked highway.

The officers further traced and contacted the victim’s daughter, Aisha Nana, informing the family about the unfortunate incident and his condition.

As at the time of this report, the victim is stable and receiving treatment.

This is policing beyond uniforms and sirens.

This is humanity in action.

This is service before self.

While others reportedly drove past a wounded man abandoned in the rain, officers of the Threat Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre stopped, rescued him, paid for his emergency treatment, and ensured he was not left alone to die.

Sometimes, the true strength of policing is not measured by force, but by compassion.

Tonight, one Nigerian is alive because some police officers chose humanity over indifference.

Exactly. But Police in this country are so corrupt and heartless it is seen as the 8th wonder of the world!
Normally they'd swoop in and arrest all trying to help the man and collect bail money!

Hope they wouldn't pick their pockets .

Was shocked when someone told me FRSC, Police and even general public has been doing this since ....1980s!

So yes things are even worse now. But these things have been happening for many decades.

Normally police is your friend, untill you drive a flashy car or dresses nice as as a young man.

Kudos to these officers.

wetin God save us for akwanga road.if u pass That road 5 times u go get accident 4 times.

As if they won't be made to pay at the end of the day, the day, I had a broken windshield on my way to warri police was asking me why I didn't report what happened to the nearest station as if I would just gone there and come out just like that without spending extra time and money then fix my windshield myself after everything.

Something to cheer about in the irredeemably crooked Police Force. Well done CSP Nehemiah.
I think that guy hit a patch where there was an extensive pool of water and hydroplaning took place, vehicle went out of control , steering lock and eventually somersaulted.
Same Nigerian Police that saw me on patrol in the e dead of the Night at Anthony with vehicle electrical issues. They just told me to cut my seatbelt and attach it to another car of a willing helper cuz the area is a dangerous zone. They drove away leaving me for Baba taku boys.
God bless one bolt guy forever. The guy towed me to a safe zone and guess what, Na my passenger seatbelt I cut.

The only problem I see here is that:
1. Most times when you try to assist an accident victim, you take them to hospital and they die there, you the helper will be arrested because your details will be used while admitting him/her in the hospital.
2. A relative tried to help an accident victim (okada passenger) by the time he reached hospital the accident victim died, the hospital called the police and he was arrested and spent a week in the hospital plus bailout money.
3. Police did the job with ease because they're law enforcement agency and nothing to fear about, anyhow they said it is, it is how it is oooooo

He just happened to be a Police. He's doing what a normal being would do ....stop and help. Why didn't others help?...not because th y didn't want to .... but because of the consequences of being a Good Samaritan in Nigeria. He being a Police will not face the consequences so he did what others wanted to do . It was so thoughtful of him to post plate number...and name the highway so the relatives of the victims can be notified.

On the roadway ...why two separate roads?.... no guard rails and no shoulder? ... no tolerance for one drifting off the roadway as in a blow out ...falling asleep ...swerving to avoid a collision.... etc one of which may be the cause of this car being where it is. Just saying.

No wonder you're where you are. To be able to move forward in life you must learn to appreciate good deeds, somethings that is clearly lost on you.

This video obviously boosts the policemen's ego. And, they are happy it is going viral.

But when idiots amongst them misbehave and are recorded they become aggressive.

What a country!

It's not matter of humanity, you would get in big trouble if you single handedly try to help someone and they die.

I once saw a Civil Defence ID Card. I wanted to drop it off at their office then I remembered, what if the owner was killed? I went back where picked it and drop the cured item where I saw it.
