Hi guys,

I once lived at Unilag. One day, after eating a pineapple fruit my mum had bought from the market, we planted the head at the back of our house containing a small farm. I didn't know that I'd have to wait three whole years to eat the fruit, even though I had learned that in Agric during secondary school. "Seeing is believing" was my case here.

So we just planted and forgot about it. No watering, no fertiliser, no nothing. One day, after about three years, I noticed the fruit had already started coming out, and I was filled with wonder because I had never seen it with my korokoro eyes before. This thing that we buy for slices of 100 naira each actually takes three years to produce edible fruit. What a gift and wonder from our Creator.

I don't believe the pineapple plants grown by farmers take 3 years to harvest o. Yours must have taken that long because you didn't tend to it the way the farmers do
Re: The Three-Year Wait Of The Pineapple Fruit (Photo) by Redman44(m): 8:43am On May 29
Pineapple takes longer to fruit than many other fruits. This I know for certain. This is why I am not interested in cultivating it. I prefer fruit trees that will yield plenty of fruits, and not one single fruit. Cheers.

The pineapple will produce buds besides the pineapple fruits, if you plant those you'll harvest them in approximately a year time. The one you cut from the top of the fruits usually takes minimum two year, but they are always very extra delicious delicious.

So one pineapple plant will only produce one fruit, whereas one orange plant will produce hundreds of fruits. huh
That doesn't make good economic sense to go into pineapple farming.

Same experience here. Days ago, I was even contemplating uprooting the plant thinking it may never bear fruit.
How I have hope

To get it yearly, plant it yearly. You only have to wait for three years for the first set to grow. After then, you will be having them yearly.

Nope, some produce 2 or 3 pineapples, there a lot of varieties of pineapples now , some won't take up to 2 years before yielding fruits .

If you plant it for where plenty water dey, it won't be as sweet AND firm as the one grown in a LESS wet area.

That is why I like Agriculture, input then output. I just love it, when leaves are green and succulent. Try planting yam, you will see many results

Pineapple farming is a very lucrative business that most people overlook. It takes 15 months between planting and harvesting, when planted with the suckers rather than the crown. If you peel the suckers to expose the roots before planting, you can harvest in 10 months time.

It's planted in asaba and Enugu in large quantities, if cared for very well it produces one to three fruit per plant, that's within 2 years.

It does. The ones farmers are selling to you are mostly GMO… They can’t wait to make money..

Majority of fruit you People eat these days are GMO!

Op waited 3 years because he planted the crown instead of the Sucker. Suckers bear fruits in less than 2 years.

If more people think like you it means more people will avoid cultivating Pineapples, and then Pineapples will become scarce and the price goes high enough to make it profitable for the few who cultivate Pineapples. It will then start making economic sense for the farmers growing pineapples. smiley
