If you haven’t been paying attention to Abia State lately, you are seriously missing out on a massive shift in governance. Governor Alex Otti just commissioned what many are already calling the most modern, multi-modal transport hub in West Africa—the Prof. Nnenna Oti Central Bus Terminal in Umuahia.

For those who remember the old Umuahia, the capital city’s transport gate was a total eyesore. It was defined by heavy traffic gridlock, illegal loading bays, chaotic motor parks in the mud, and total zero comfort for travelers.

Well, that era of "playing small" seems to have officially ended.

The Infrastructure Peak:
This isn't just a basic motor park with a concrete floor. Built by Planet Projects (the guys behind some of the biggest terminals in Lagos), this facility is an absolute beast:

Massive Capacity: It can handle over 340 buses simultaneously to fully declutter the streets of Umuahia.

Airport-Standard Amenities: It features over 62 industrial air conditioners, clean indoor waiting lounges, 22 retail shops, a restaurant, and a fully functioning traveler's motel for people stranded at night.

The Green Future: It is built to serve as the central nerve center for Abia State’s new fleet of operational Electric Buses, complete with dedicated charging docks and digital arrival/departure scheduling boards.

The Political Firestorm (Why the Opposition is Furious):
But the real drama isn't just the concrete and steel; it's the name on the building.

Governor Alex Otti didn't name it after himself or a fellow politician. He named it after Professor Nnenna Oti —the FUTO Vice-Chancellor who stood her ground as the INEC Returning Officer during the high-tension 2023 Abia elections and declared that she would "stand on the side of truth."

Predictably, the opposition APC in Abia State is losing its mind. They've labeled the move "reckless" and a "dangerous precedent," even threatening to petition the ICPC, arguing that an electoral officer shouldn't be immortalized by the beneficiary of that very election. On the flip side, everyday citizens are calling it poetic justice and a monument to integrity.

Naming it after anybody doesn't matter.
Though significantly it proves that good name is better than gold.
Most importantly is the project itself, the encompassing multidimensional effect it brings to Umuahia and Abịa at large .

If there's one thing that I've learnt under this man called Otti, it is the fact that governance is not that difficult when the political will is there. The reason we are experiencing setback politically in Nigeria is because we keep electing either people with wrong mindsets about governance or wrong people in the right position.
