before the conflict in Iran, global crude oil traded between $70 and \$72 a barrel. Went up to about 140 -150 at the peak of the war. but now back to 80$-90$ but why Nigeria fuel is still very expensive? |

The day President Tinubu will lift ban on importation of cement is the day Nigerians will brethe a sigh of relief.. the paid posters defending Dangote's unreasonable cement price in Nigeria will be the same ones explaining how he managed to reduce his price when people start buying cheaper cement. Take it from me, so called indigenous investors are the ones destroying Nigeria's manufacturing sector.. they'll make demands that government should protect them and ban their competition.. then they turn back and start doing nonsense, making life hard for the masses. They have destroyed cement sector, now house rent has gone beyond reach of the common man because of one man's greed.. People can no longer build or complete their houses because one useless entity wants to remain on Forbes list.. as if that's not enough, they want to take over the petroleum sector and be dictating prices as they like, making life more difficult for Nigerians I remember the first time I picked the Petroleum Industry Act to read, I saw all the shenanigans and schemes by Northerners to give Dangote monopoly and I shook my head... I just said shame on these ones. |

Let me try explaining to you OP since you are obviously too lazy to research issues yourself. Crude oil tankers take weeks to arrive at ports of destination. The price that crude was bought, determines how much the resultant fractional units gets sold for. It doesn't matter if price drops when that ship is still in transit and the refinery has to process its contents. The refinery will sell products at the price of the latest import. If the refinery orders more crude at a lesser price, then prices at the pump will come down. Let's not forget that Dangote still sources his crude from outside. He has to offset that before little gains can start coming in. |
| Re: Oil Prices Have Crashed But Nigeria Fuel Is Still High by Lithiumite: 3:40am On May 31 |
It doesn't work that way, crude supplies contracts usually dont get termed on a daily basis there is what you call futures and spot pricing, what you are looking at is the spot price and anyone who buys at that price today will take several weeks before it gets to the pump for you to buy,by then the price could have jumped back up and tbe dealers also need to edge themselves against volatility imagine buying at $70 and byvthe time it gets to the pump prices has gone up again back to $100 will you as a business man not sell another price that will cover your cost when you go back tobthe market for new supplies. Thats why you hear stuff like our crude has been sold 3 months up front,if dangote had bought at $120 when the Iran war started on a 3 months futures contract,he will still be getting supplied at that same 120 today and if he decides to buy on another spot contract today for $70 it will take several weeks for that to be able to reflect on his gantry price. |

Lithiumite:but all this was not applied oo when it was time for increment because it was almost immediately the price of crude went up that this nicompo increase the pump price to. |

heniford2:Na the people wey dey spoil Nigeria be this. Nigerian businessmen and greed ehn. Don't you know with these artificially high oil prices, you too would get other non-oil products at high prices? Na so the cycle dey always go round. |
| Re: Oil Prices Have Crashed But Nigeria Fuel Is Still High by Lithiumite: 6:52am On May 31 |
Kaymaxi2222:Imagine you sell bottled water and your cost price is 1,200 to sell at 1,500 a pack, you still have stock to last you a week but you get news that prices have gone up to 1,300 a pack, yoi will have to increase price to 1,600 despite you bought your current stock at 1,200,you need to hedge against the 100 naira increment and maintain your profit margin of 25%......you will have to increase prices immediately. When you then restock at the new cost price of 1 300 to sell art 1,600 but you then hear again prices has dropped back to 1,200,you cannot immediately reduce your selling price back to 1 500 because you bought at 1,300 and you will need to still retain your 25% margin. |

When the government agency in charge of regulation tried to make the industry competitive, all of you stood with Dangote because of your senseless hatred for Tinubu. Tinubu is a very patient man, he would allow you to dig your own grave, when you eventually bury yourself in it, you'd remember that he was right all along. |

Dogalmighty17:have you run a business before? There is what we called loses in business. You can’t escape that is a decentralized economy. Only a monopoly. Company cover loses its not a new thing. As price change over time. They make more gain when it increases and lose when it decreases. It's that simple Claiming that all of them will have to first sell out all old products is a total rubbish. |

Lithiumite:You got it totally wrong please! The people in the same business with you would already started selling theirs at low prices which would make you not to dispose the water asap and Water doesn’t last that much before it starts having taste or changing colour. Remember that price control is one of the reasons why the water associations like ATWAP was formed. But mind you, no association will question why you are selling yours at higher prices because they know that you will likely not be able to dispose your goods and no one would tell you to reduce it when you cant get as much buyers as you want and cant be watching them getting spoilt. |

Dangote recently claimed he was subsidizing fuel prices in Nigeria and i laughed in awe and disbelief. The most shocking thing is that this balderdash claim was reechoed by rufai oseni in arise TV show.I remember Kevin Emmanuel saying it cost around $0.52 including regulatory fees for 1 litre of pms at dangote refinery when crude oil was $70 per barrel.I used to support the idea of total ban on importation of refined fuel, but, with recent events in the energy market Dangote has shown himself to be a very greedy man. |
| Re: Oil Prices Have Crashed But Nigeria Fuel Is Still High by fineboynl(op): 11:14am On May 31 |
Lithiumite:you have no options or choice when others have drop their prices. That's business. A solid competitive business is what all Nigeria needs. Not talking Trash about monopoly business What benefits if that refinery to average Nigerian?. If not for greadiness. Dangote should have been charging the Nigeria government refine cost while the government continue with the fuel pricing and distribution, maybe subsidy. But he refused than he wants to control everything and ban import for business people are already doing long before he came. Since he open that refinery that fuel price have increased more than 20 times. And by the next ten years Nigeria will be paying it 3-5k mark this post. Look where we find ourselves now. The rice farmers didn't favour Nigerians same way with this refinery. |
