President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the setting up of 1000 forest guards for Oyo State

This came after a high-powered Federal Government delegation visited Oyo State on Sunday.

Give it a little time, your eyes will soon be open and you will see what Nigerians are saying. The president who moves in a 70 SUV convoy cannot find unbranded vehicles for his special delegation to visit the community. They had to show up in renewed hope vehicles. Tinubu clearly has his priorities and politicking is top on the list. What a tragedy!

Our leaders are too shallow. Who even tell am say the next strike will be Oyo state? These guys don't think.

Another reactive and haphazard move by the president!

1. This move is obviously a reaction to public criticism after the Oyo school abductions.Unfortunately,its not a long-term, proactive strategy and feels like political damage control rather than a proper systemic reform.

2. This is restricted mainly to forests. A thousand guards for oyo's huge terrain is too small for any meaningful coverage against mobile bandits/terrorists. Why is the president not putting pressure on the Senate to speed up State Police,same way they quickly passed the law to change the national anthem?

3. Have these forest guards been trained in modern communication gadgets,sufficient ammunition, and advanced intelligence tools?
I highly doubt it!

4.We already have a fragmented security (Army, Police, NSCDC, Amotekun, vigilantes) which may lead to rivalry,unclear command, and poor integration.

Like I have opined,this is yet another kneejerk reaction from an incompetent administration that is obviously bereft of ideas on how to tackle insecurity!
